Looking too build another 22lr bolt gun, probably a savage mark ii tr. I found this scope on sale for $750 less a weekend promo of an extra $125 off so $625, msrp is $1099.I looked through it and it's very clear just concerned that 20 may not be enough magnification for target shooting. I looked through viper HST in 6x24 and not quite as clear it's a big jump in magnification. My ? Is this too good a deal too pass on or should I hold out for a higher power scope.

When did 20x become not enough scope for a rimfire? I've shot out to 1100m very effectively with a fixed 10x (obviously not on a rimfire ;) )
Thats a great price for the Leupold. FWIW my nicest Anschutz wears a POS 4-12x40ao and prints groups in the .2-.3" range at 50m.
20x is tons unless you're getting into rimfire BR.

That's steal for a 6.5-20X40. Is it the EFR model?
My most accurate .22 has the honours of wearing that exact scope you speak of. The 6.5-20 X 40 is my favorite RF scope and I'd like buy more of them. That scope is THE choice of smallbore silhouette shooters. Like Marco said, that's a very adequate magnification range unless you see yourself doing BR competition.

I have an older model VariX III 6.5-20 x40 AO on my Anschutz 1717 (17 HMR) and it is more than enough magnification for the quality of the gun and the expected maximum range (200 yds) that it is used. That's a great price and I believe a better choice than the Vortex (I sell both brands). Phil.
