Leupold Alumina cap question

Bought a 2015 (AB) serial numbered VX3.
Bought the alumina 40mm kit to put on it. Kit is the newest rendition with the silver painted on logos instead of the traditional gold logos. Package says right on it "fits post 2003 and some ealier scopes".
The objective went on like every other alumina I've used in the past. The EP piece won't go on as the eye piece has a rubber ring attached to the outer edge. Pulled back the rubber ring and it doesn't appear there are any threads to attach the cover to. What's missing from this equation? I've never saw this before.RB

Doesn't the rubber EP ring just unscrew and replace with the alumina EP?
Trying to remember what I've done with mine
