Leupold clone arrived and NFG

The Savage will shoot .500 MOA groups or less all day long. It was just the easiest of all my rifles to try the clone on. Needless to say the Elite 3200 is back on.

I wasn't expecting miracles from a cheap scope but if it had worked out I was going to mount it on my Remington .204 for my coyote hunting.

Still haven't heard from the seller but his trader rating on eBay is excellent. A fellower CGN'er posted some time ago that he had a problem with a scope from the same seller and it was replaced no questions asked.

Oye piloto de mexico, may I ask why you would remove the Elite?

Depends how much noise your zipper makes....

true enough.... It is always a temptation to find the diamond in the rough.

super sniper didn't sound all that great either....
I'd pass on any Leupold, but I was tempted to get the clone. Why?
All my other scopes are IOR..... I guess I need a beater...

And for Gatehouse.... sure I would. all my rifles have iron sights (notice I didn't say back-ups) and thay are there for a reason.

I have 2 of these now with the 1/4 click type adj. Only one is mounted and works perfect. As to whether I'd take it sheep hunting, would you take a $150 scope sheep hunting?Get real, the things are not a replacement for a $700 scope and to compare them is pretty stupid. If you go into this thinking you will be getting a $700 scope for $100 you will be disappointed. However for $150 you get a milldot recticle, side focus, target turrets and adj. objective. Lots of features for the $ as well as 3 day shipping to gopher flats. I also found these to be a bit heavier than the leupolds. Would I leave my Leupold scoped 300wsm home from a sheep hunt to take the clone scoped 204? No, but then I don't often take the wsm's to the gopher patch. Application is the deciding factor. Mark

Interesting...:)

I really have no intention of buying a clone for anything. I can afford real Leupolds, and so that is what I mount on my hunting rifles.

I may look at one for my 10/22, but I may just get a Elite 4200, too, as I have found ( a long time ago) that inexpensive optics are never a true bargain, in the long run.:p

Just because you pay more for something doesn't make it better in all applications. If you wish to put a $500 scope on a .22 that's your affair, however I think one of these clones would do me just fine. I'll use the lefover $ to buy stuff like groceries and gas.Mark

these scopes, both the m-1 and m-3 models are way to heavy for a sheep rifle. If I could afford a fly in guided sheep hunt, I think I could afford a better scope than a leopold. They have a good warranty, and they need it!.

actually there are several luepold clones out there, the ones jack sells have paralax adjustment at the eye piece, for people with glasses and such, and some of the hong kong ones do not have an adjustable eyepiece.

Actually the scope I received from Hong Kong is a mirror image of the one that Jack sells with the adjustable eyepiece. It's the same old question "Does Canadian Tire manufacture tires?" The answer is "No."

I don't know who in China manufactures the clones but I could almost guarantee you they all come from the same source.

I'm waiting for the seller to respond. His trader rating on eBay is around 98.7%. It appears that anyone with a problem scope came away satisfied in the end.

Just a general question for all the CGN-ers with any form of Leupold clone. With my Elite 3200 10 x 40mm when I zero it at 100 yards with a particular load I can remove the allan screw on top of the tactical knobs, lift them off and reset them to '0'.

The Leupy clone has an allan screw on the side of the knob.....has anyone been able to remove the knob for a reset to '0'? I even removed the whole screw but with a tug on the knob it doesn't seem to want to let go and I don't want to force the issue, just curious.

I agree with Gate, don't pretend to own a leupold by buying $150.00 dollar crap, you get what you pay for. Very few people take spare scopes on hunting trips as backups unless their on another rifle and if one of those cheap scopes let you down when you need it most you will wish you sold your wife beforehand to be able to afford a leupold or equivelent.

who said we are pretending to own a luepold ??

I also have a tasco 6-24x42AO Varmit scope on one of my 10/22's and the luepold clone blows it away for brightness and quality of lens.

for $170 delivered to your door your getting a great deal for a bangaround scope, it has side adjust paralax, illuminated mil-dot reticle, finger adjustable target turrets.

and for me, frankly unless I can afford a nice 8-25 luepold long range I will be putting these clones on my .22's both for hunting and for fun. hell for the price of one luepold I could buy 8 clones.

I sill want that long range for my target grade 10/22..... but for my hunting rifles / fun guns the luepold clones work fine.

Hi westicle,

Have you been able to remove the tactical knobs to 'zero' them? I've tried taking the set screws out but the knobs don't seem to budge. It's easy with my Elite 3200.

I bought mine just out of curiosity and mounted it on my .243 just to try it out. Now maybe they are sensitive to recoil but the model I have is the M1 clone with 1/4" MOA. If at 100 yards the bullet strikes 3" low and 3" to the left then 12 clicks up and 12 clicks right should place the next shot close to dead centre but it doesn't.

I'm beginning to think that if the scope is that sensitive to recoil after the shot that gave me 3" low and 3" left the reticle may have jumped significantly so when I dial in the correction the next shot goes hay wire?

I fired 14 shots total out of the .243 and finally gave up, especially when one shot didn't even hit the target. When I took the bolt out, bore sighted it and then looked thru the scope the frigging thing was pointing at the ground underneath the target backstop. It was around 1 1/2 feet out vertically and horizontally.

I think the one they sent is just a lemon and I'm looking forward to trying out the replacement. I never fooled myself into thinking it was a Leupold and if it works out it should be good on my .204 for coyotes. At it's best my .204 is simply a 300 yard gun. The Elite 3200 10 x 40mm is back on the Savage 12BVSS .243 and it is one super scope, with that combination in early June I was able to score a 26 out of 30 with an 11 3/4 inch group at the 1000 metre shoot at Sidley.

yes on mine the screw comes right out... and the turret will pop right off exposing a brass coloured pole.

I not that on the pole is drilled a detent for the lock to screw into, and the detent is only drilled in the one spot so I don;t really know how your going to get the turret to read zero without doing some drill press work on the brass pole thingie.

just make sure to unscrew the detent fully....
