I'm aiming on picking one of these up for my 7600 35 Whelen carbine and switch over to my Benelli SBE slug gun. Anyone have any experience with the LPS line or this model particularly?

I called Leupold directly to get the dirt on this LPS scope. They say that the 1.5-6x42 became so popular that it negatively impacted on the sale of VXIII 1.5 scopes which carried a higher margin as their production costs where lower on the VX models. They also mentioned that the 42mm objective was complete overkill for such a low magnification scope and could not be justified to carry on. Hense the drop of this magnification and continued line of the LPS for several more years till they VX-L and VX-7 came out.....its all driven by marketing...only one stable for the stud I guess

No offense to nobody, but to my eyes I was not impressed for the money of the LPS. I found the older Kahles AH in 42mm and the Zeiss conquest in 40 to be brighter and crisper.

I live in the country and have tried them on several evenings where artificial light can be a factor but was not. This is comparing it to a 3.5X14X50mm LPS, and yes the other scopes were set at the same power when comparing.

Whoever gave you the info on the LPS is certainly different than what is given to dealers...LPS line was dropped at end of 2006...replaced by VX-7 line. I bought (and sold) all the remaining LPS scopes that were left in Canada. In fact the info given to us at the dealer level that there was inconsistent reliability in the LPS line and thus they went to a different and somewhat more expensive line in the VX-7. Phil.
