Leupold Mk4 M1 vs. M3 BDC

Both good, and the true Mk4's are tanks.

The difference between the true Mk4's (the fixed power scopes), is they more than double the elevation adjustment over the variable so you can shoot WAY farther, and are much more rugged (less to go wrong as well). The fixed power scopes are true military optics and designed that way from the get go, vs the variables which are 'tacticalized' VX-III's. That's why the most expensive Mk4's are the simplest ones, the fixed power 40mm's, the 16X retails just under $2000 plus tax typically, but you can pick up a 6.5-20x50mm for a lot less.

Hmm...well if you had a 10x with TacMilling then maybe...:D. Also, MOA of edjustment isn't that important to me, I'll just get bases with more elevation. Besides, there's no where around here I can shoot more than 600m.

Totally understandable and honestly, not trying to push anything on you, just giving the info :) A 10X40mm or 3.5-10X40mm would be a wicked scope, and more than enough for 600m, my sentiments leaning towards the 10X40 of course. Nightforce are absolutely top notch as well, and honestly either would work great for the ranges you're shooting, probably little difference in that application. But if you ever decide to start shooting 1400 yards with a .338 or 1800 with a .50 :D Check out S&B and the fixed power Mk4's. Cheers and happy shooting :)

What about Nightforce vs. Leupold?

-Rohann

I was looking at getting a Nightforce before I was able to swing the S&B.

The Nightforce I was looking at retailed for around $1800.00 new.

Nothing at all wrong with Nightforce. Some guys I know rate the nightforce above the Leupold Mark 4s as far as glass quality in concerned.

If you watch for used MK 4 scopes and are quick on the draw, you can pick up a used 3.5 - 10 X 40mm Mildot reticle MK-4 for under $1000.00. Maybe a little more if you want an illuminated reticle.

You have to be quick though........;)

Ardent: Thanks for the info. A 10x40 is bloody expensive (about $500 more than a regular 3.5x-10x), so I think I'll end up going with the 3.5-10. These are still really rugged, reliable scopes though right? When I get a .50 I'll get a fixed power, but no S&B for now.
SKBY: Thanks for the reply. I'm looking for a scope under $1500, and I can get a new 3.5-10 TMR for $1400. I'll look around though, hopefully I can find something decent.
