Hey guys I bought a browning brl lightweight lever 7mm rem mag with a leupold standard 1 peice base on it and wondering if anyone knows off hand what rings to use to mount a 2.5-16x42 bushnell elite 6500 scope on it?

Thanks in advance

Owens,

I have a BLR as well and found low mounts worked if I removed the rear sight. How much clearance do you have between the scope bell and the rear sight, or did you remove the rear sight too? The lower the better, especially with the BLR in my experience. :)

The rear sight is removed. Not sure exactly how much clearance there is but i don't think i would want to go any lower because of the hammer clearance. What kind of scope and magnification did mount?

Initially I had a Leupold 3-9x40mm on it and had to remove the rear sight. I could get about 3 thicknesses of paper between the scope and the barrel and the hammer was a bit crowded. I did eventually (last year actually) upgraded to a different scope.

Currently I have a Bushnell Elite 4200 1.5-4x24 (30mm with illuminated reticle) on it and this scope seems high even in the low rings I have it in. Not an excessive amount of clearance for the hammer with any scope design, since the rear housings are pretty well within the same diameter range. Optics are always a matter of personal preference, once you choose the right specifications for your hunting location, and your Bushnell sounds very nice indeed. In our bush country here in Central Ontario the 16x would be of little use, but 2.5 to 4 power I consider ideal for the kind of opportunities we have here. Yours sounds like it will be ideal in a wide range of hunting situations (i.e. distances). The 42mm front objective is as big as one can go with the BLR in low mounts in my experience.

Is your Bushnell illuminated?

no it is not illuminated.I'm not sure illuminated is an option for this scope. I have the doa reticle. don't care for the measuring marks but i think i will like the holdage lines once i shoot with them and see where they line up. Sounds like you have a nice set up. I hunt on the prairies so the higher end magnification can be useful for long shots. I also go up north to hunt in the bush and thats why i wanted this bushnell with 2.5-16.
