Leupold One-Piece Mount

I bought a one-piece mount and leupold rings (STD) for my Savage 111, and found that the mount only utilizes 3 of the 4 drilled holes in the receiver.

Now the question is, for those of you who use this mount, have you just left the 4th hole empty, or have you found a way to fill it? I would think that leaving it wide open is just an invitation for dirt to get in there, or rust to start. I thought of using one of the screws that came with the existing weaver style mount to plug the leftover hole, and while this would at least be a functional solution, it would do nothing for form since they don't screw in flush without the mount in place.

Would I be better off to just exchange the mount/rings for one that does utilize all 4 holes on the receiver?

I am using the one-piece mount because the existing 2 piece system that came with the package places the scope rings too far apart, dangerously close to the bells on the scope. The fact that the VX-II is a little shorter than the Simmons that came with the package exacerbates this problem.

I use a Leupold one piece mount on one of my Savages as well, and I think it's a great base. You can buy some little filller screws from a gunstore, or your gunsmith. They're really just little threads without heads. They will fill up that hole nice and flush. Keep your base!

PS...If you can't find one, pm me with your address and I'll mail one out to you.

Aah cool. I didn't know such a thing existed. I'm gonna go ahead and mount that base then. Thanks! If I can't find them, I'll certainly take you up on your offer!

Houston.. well, you know the rest...

After putting on the mount and taking a look at it, I'm a bit reluctant to put my first Leupold scope on those rings...

There's quite a slope from the rear to the front. :bangHead: I wondered why Leupold would contour the front of the mount to accomodate the round receiver, but leave the rear as a square block. If the rear was contoured as well, I'm sure I would not be having this problem. Or at the very least, it wouldn't be quite so drastic. Suggestions? This is my first attempt at mounting a scope btw, so if something else looks screwy, let me know .

I was wondering about that myself, although the packaging all seems to be in order:

Leupold STD Savage 110, RH
49996

And on the reverse:

STD
Savage 110, RH
Savage 110, 110C, 111, 112, 113, 114, 116.

Once again, mine is a 111 FCXP3 so all should be fine, no?

Seems to me, if it was possible to turn the mount around, there'd be no issue, but if I did that, it would get in the way of the ejection port... iyiyiyi. Not to mention any other issues that this might cause, because the instructions indicate the windage screws be on the rear...

Not familiar with Leup part #s etc., but that ain't gonna work...and yes, adj screws gotta be in rear, should be no slope when mounted.

Maybe somebody put the wrong base in the package???
I don't know, but better take it back and trade in for proper one.

You have the wrong base. Part #49996 is for the pre accutrigger models ( now most of the Savage receivers are round at the back), The holes will line up but you are right to wonder why the base does not conform to the rear of the round receiver. The part you need is #55701 and it states right on the front of the package "round receiver". We have this part in stock if you can't find it locally (sometimes this is the problem with mounting yourself because of these specific issues that you would not normally know). Phil.

Indeed this is the problem. Thanks P of PDent! I just went to exchange it today, and got it all cleared up. Hopefully install v. 2.0 goes a little better . For those not in the know, Savages either are square in the rear or round. Mine happened to be round front and back, and the mount that I was originallly given was for the square rear receiver.

I had the same issue. I ended up buying new longer bolts that i ground to the proper length as with three short bolts was too weak. I had no issues with three long bolts. The fourth was filled with another short bolt. I switched to a TPS base that uses four bolts now.
