Leupold or Nightforce

I have 2 Nightforces and am thinking about a third. Great optics, robust construction and fully illuminated. If you add up the features of the Nightforce they are not much more money than the VXIII or Mark 4s. Well worth the extra $ if you want my opinion. I also have 2 Leupolds and I find the class clear but with a yellow tone where as the NF are cyrstal clear with no noticable optical color shift.

scopes....

I think one thing to consider is the warrantee....

Lifetime, limited Lifetime, and then the small writing like -ownership card must have been filled out with the original receipt or no warrantee.

Another thing to consider is that any scope that needs repair work in the USA needs a export/import (paperwork) to get it serviced, and doing that for one scope is not something that most companies will do. This is new as of last fall.

Leupold will service everything in Okatoks AB but the MK4 line and that needs to go to the USA. SO, I dont know if that has been a problem or not for anyone since last fall.

If getting the broken optic back for service is impossible the best warrantee on the planet wont help!!!!!!!!!!

Possibly European Optics are the way to go as Europe and Canada have less BS & paperwork problems (Re: warrantee work) than does Canada and the USA. The American border/shipping is getting to be problematic and renders the BEST warantee in the market useless.

Shipping to Europe is going to take longer and be more costly BUT in the long run it might possibly be the better way to go!!!!

Well sort of. However, as the few folks that have had either warranty work or reticle changes done on their NF scopes can testify, turn around on work is pretty quick. We have a very large import/export permit in place, and scopes can very quickly be shipped against it. You just need to involve TSE in the process (for a scope imported by TSE).

Europeans are subject to the Wassanar agreement and we are having to do a lot of paperwork to send IOR scopes to Romania with very slow turnaround.
Authorized NF dealers can quickly resolve issues, but we haven't had any and think that NF are the most reliable scopes made.

If TSE is involved, then NF is the way to go (I had a few Leupold MK4's but never had to send them to Beaverton OR, however on the phone on a special order quote I founded them very professional.)

I just bought a new Nightforce NSX 8-32x56 for my F-Class rifle and personally dont think its worth the money. It is the first Nightforce that I have owned so I cant speak for the whole line.I have owned several Leupold MK4 scopes and have always been very happy with them.I would recomend paying the extra cash if you can and go with a Schmidt & Bender.

That's a rather vague assessment, care to offer some detail?

FWIW, you almost always get more when you pay more. The difference however when going from NF to S&B or Hensoldt is however substantial. It puts the scopes out of most people's reach.

FOR the money , and you can't go wrong, Get leupold, life time warrenties, doesn't have to send across the pond for warrenties, it right here in Okatok, and if you have the coin, then try out S&B or USO, but you better spending the money on ammo and shoot lot!...

WRONG!!!! Most Leupolds are serviced in Okotoks, NOT the MK4s however which are the closest thing Leupold has to offer compared to a NF.

No I have not contacted Nightforce. The scope otherwise is bright, clear and the 1/4 minute clicks are 100% bang on.I heard of the problem with the 8-32x56 NSX before I bought it but figured I would try it out anyways. When doing a side by side comparison on the bench with my USO and my Schmidt the haze is very evident.

I have several 8x32x56s and sell many of them. I have not exprienced any haze, but if there is any problem, send it back and NF will look after you.
