Why not use an Aimpoint?

Cheaper, battle proven quality, crazy long battery life and more mounting options.

Battery dies on the Leupold.. you still have a reticule, on the Aimpoint, you dont.

I was gonna put one on my M14.. but I didn't realize it only has 3.5 inch eye relief..

Great optic for the money.

Yea but the AP battery generally fails only once every 5 years.

Don't get me wrong the Prismatic is a nice optic but not worth the money IMHO.

I'd trust my Aimpoint just as much as the Prismatic with its etched lens, plus I can co-witness my Micro with iron sights (on my USC-45)

The aimpoint tech has been around since what.... the 70's? thats 40 year old tech, and its become extremely reliable.

You can put the Micro's on handgun slides, they are built like tanks!

The Prismatic is a nice little optic, but for CQB or closer-range stuff, the red-dot is going to be much better. You need a solid cheek wield with the Prismatic, since its still a prism/lens-based optic.

I can see something like the CQT to be a good idea, since you get the 1-3x option, but to be honest I think the Prismatic was an answer to a question that was never asked.

Aimpoints (even the oooold M2/ML2) have incredible reliability & the new ones have extreme battery life.

ETA

you go to ARFcom and read the optics forum. its a B**** fest there, where ever and any little problem is whined about... the only problem I can find people having with Aimpoints is how to mount them, and people with astigmatism's having a hard time with the dot.

The battery is still an extra point of failure.

If anything to do with the AP quality or failure rate concerns you then I can't see how the prismatic does not. AP is the gold standard.

Also IIRC the prismatic will shift poi if you change your eye relief at all.

Not that the Leupy isn't a nice or good optic I just fail to see the point when something less expensive and unquestionably good already exists. FWIW, I've never heard of any mil pers using the leupy in the sh!t.
