I was already to mount the scope on a new rifle, only to discover what is shown in the picture. Yes Leupold will replace them, but it is a nuisance to have to send them in, and wait for replacements, when they should have never made it through Quality Control.

That doesn't surprise me at all, Leupold is junk and its overpriced thanks to Korth Group. Had an $1800 VX6 that missed QC inspection as well, firedot failed and windage dial didn't work after a few weeks of shooting....lucky Cabelas dealt with it appropriately.
Sako as of late isn't much better on their QC either....maybe they can fix their extraction, at least an SKS and a Savage extract properly on all models.

A friend just sent back some Sako rings. Sure they drilled the holes, but it doesn't do much good when they didn't tap them. Then there's those self-stripping Sako screws.

I won't use Sako rings , they are grossly overpriced and the screws are soft. I am using the Burris bases that slide over the dovetails, and Leupold rings, when I get some that are drilled and tapped.

What's it say on the package about where they are made?

If you call Korth they will probably tell you to take them back to where you bought them for exchange if its more convenient/faster. That's what they told me to do when I had a set of Mark 4 rings that were assembled one spline off on the cross-bolts.

Unfortunately, the package has been in my spare parts drawer for a long time, and I have no idea who I purchased them from.

It might not be leupold mistake. A friend of mine bought some "Leupold" rings from wholesale sports in langley, during a sale so got a pretty good deal. Gets the rings home goes to install them and the fit and finish is horrible, threads very rough, he sends them back because he expected more from a quality brand like Leupold.

Leupold advise him that these rings are not leupold rings and are counter fit/knock offs and are very interested in where he got them.

So if wholesale sports can be fooled into selling knock offs thinking they are authentic(or they are willfully selling knock offs but that would be pretty bad) then anything can happen.

Sako/Tikka are owned by Beretta so that could be part of the reason the quality has declined. Large conglomerate corporations tend to miss the finer details of the brands they swallow up.

There's no fooling WSS. They either buy from an authorized dealer or they don't. If they don't then they need a swift kick in the junk.

Yes it was a Leupold mistake. When Korth was contacted, they were not at all surprised, because they had seen this before. The rings are on the way back to them.

My buddy suspects they were a return, as the seal on the packaging was broken but they looked new, guy must have done a good job repacking them, he suspects that perhaps someone bought the rings from WSS put the fakes back in the original packaging and returned it for a refund to WSS. Then he purchased them and ended up with the fakes.

That would make sense... Crappy deal.

Apparently you didnt get the self-tapping screws that usually come packaged with those bases

It does not matter which "great" brand - Leupold, Bushnell, Weaver, Burris, Vortex.... All made in China or close-by. Wonder why buying scope rings on-line alltogether.
