Leupold Rifleman Question

I have 4 riflemans on my inexpensive guns and frankly they are a best buy, not as bright as a VX-III but very close to a VX-I.... the things I like about them is the price point, but realize that for an extra $100 or less you can upgrade to a VX-I which has better coatings and slightly better transmission rate.
having said that I recommend the rifleman to all my buddies who are just getting into guns, the leupold warrenty is by far the best in the industry and frankly I have never heard anyone having a problem with them.
buy it and I am sure you will be happy..... and they are nice segway into the higher end of leupold scopes.

It's an OK scope, but barely. Single coated optics vs. multi coated on all the other models. The friction adjustable (no clicks) sighting system has only 1/2 MOA markings, vs. 1/4 MOA on all the others. Only one reticle available. No lockable eyepiece, but that doesn't seem to be an issue. It is strong, and it has the lifetime warranty. Not as good at dawn or dusk as the multicoated models.
If you can get a similar good deal on a VX I model, it would be worth an extra $30 or $40 for the multi-coating and other features. If the Rifleman is a steal, pounce on it.

I don't have one but I did order one for a buddy's rifle. I was impresed with the brightness and overall quality. Then again it is a Leupold.
The only caution I have is that the tube length between the power ring and the start of the Objective bell was a tad short to fit on a Stevens 200 in standard Weaver rings. I ended up having to get extension rings for the rifle. My Burris 3-9 Signature fit on my 200 in 30-06 fine in Talley Lightweights, but the Rifleman didn't have the length to fit on his identical rifle in Weavers. I even looked at slapping my Talleys on his rifle so it would be ready for his anniversary but it wouldn't have fit in them either. Either Leupold Dual Dovetail Extension rings, a reversible base or some such system might be necessary. My advice is to take the rifle in and test a few ring combos to get the one that works. Just wasn't an option up here. Thankfully ATRS does express shipping of non-stock parts (I don't think there's a set of Weaver rings in his shop) for friends of the family!
