leupold rifleman vs bushnell elite

Not a fan of the 1/2moa adjustment on the Rifleman. Kurgan is right, grab a MIJ Elite if you can. But if money is not an issue, VX-Freedom is the follow up to the VX-1/2 and better than both.

I agree with medved, the Bushell Elite 6500 is superior to the Rifleman.

It's far easier to keep both the image and reticle sharp in the Bushnell and the light transmission is much better.

I've tried both and the Bushnell won hands down.

Now, if your shooting is only at the range, say out to two hundred yards during the middle of the day, it will be hard to justify the extra cost.

If you're going to hunt with it, during low light levels, especially on a rainy/cloudy fall morning/evening, then you need to go to the Bushnell Elite 6500

Lots of misinformation here.

The rifleman is far below the vx-1. It’s got half moa friction adjustments. It’s got fluoride coated lenses. No multi coating of any kind here.

It’s a fine reliable scope, I’m sure but it’s extremely old in design.

The VX1 by contrast, has 1/4” moa click adjustments and has multicoat 4. Totally different class of scope.

Even the older vx-I (not 1) have micro friction and multi coated optics and is also superior to the rifleman.

Personally, I might opt for the bushnell elite but be wary that they’re no longer made so if you send it for warranty you’re getting one of their newer products instead which won’t be made in Japan.

If hunting, I might just take the rifleman to use all of my alumina accessories with it.

Unfortunately Bushnell went though a phase where everything was "Elite".

This carried through the 3500, 4500 and the 6500 series.

The 6500 has been discontinued and probably the other two as well.
When a 6500 2.5-16 screwed up, Bushnell Canada offered a New Model but the reticle was too busy for my purposes.
They eventually found a new 4.5-30 x 50 and that is what I accepted.

Was never impressed with the Rifleman, and argued once with a store owner the Rifleman was better than the VX-1 and the VX-2.
The $$$$ signs apparently made it better.

All the Japanese made “elite” models earn the name. They have some of the toughest most stable adjusters with an extremely positive click. Great glass, super strong and well built. Each to a price point but all of them deserving the name.

I’m not sure what you mean about $$$$. The rifleman was the cheapest leupold optic when it was available and far far cheaper than the vx-2.
