Looks like I may never see my Bushnells again as I still cannot get in touch with a human being at bushnell regarding a couple of scopes I sent in for repair. I need a scope for a .222 rem and was thinking of a Leopold Rifleman. I want a scope that won't break, hold the bloody zero that doesn't shift with power changes, and is reasonably clear. I like so sight in a gun and leave the settings alone after that. Since the gun will be for yotes out to 200M only I was thinking the Rifleman would be good enough. I know the upper models are a lot better but is the Rifleman good enough.

From the reading I've done (I am looking for a single scope as well) my take is that if you want to sight it in an leave it alone... these are good.
No clicks would obviously be bad if you were constantly adjusting, then wanting to go back to a previous setting.

Absolutely nothing wrong with your choice. I was told the Rifleman was just a VX-I in different packaging. Originally, it was made for Walmart, but they didn't sell enough, so Leupold put the line out for general availability. It still has the lifetime warranty!
For just a few dollars more look at the VXI line. As already mentioned by Icon, the VXI is very similar to the Rifleman line, but they are slightly different. The VXIs have slightly better lense coatings and are lighter scopes (at least in some models i.e. 3 X 9 X 40).
i have a few leups with friction adjustment and don't mind it. once set it won't move. i usually sight in for a load and leave it. if i wanted to repeatably move setting i would go up to the vx11 with click adjusters otherwise the vx1 is fine.
Nothing wrong with friction. I have several Leupolds with continuous friction and have never had to touch them.I also have a rifleman 2-7x33 but it is new and has yet to be mounted on anything so I cant speak on the rifleman.

I own a 2-7x33 Rifleman and have no problem with it at all. It's on my Win Model 70 in 30-06.....
I have an M-8 6x and a varix III 1.75-6 and all I can say is the only scopes I will buy is a Leopold. If I buy a used rifle with a scope, if it's not a Leopold I won't pay for it. Period, If it's not a leopold it's not on my gun. If you can't afford an II or III go for the fixed power.

If you are stuck on Leupold I think the fixed powers are best for your price range(rifleman). If you are wanting a variable there is nothing in Leupolds hunting line-up that can't be beat by a Bushnell or Nikon exept maybe the LPS series. If it were me I'd just order an elite 3200 3-9x40 and grin every time I thought of a friction ajust,single layer coated,multi-piece tubed Rifleman.

I've owned about eight or so bushnells and all but two have gone sour. Until now the warranty service has not been too bad. Finally got to talk to a person today but it looks like I'm going to have to fight the It was your fault battle.

If what I here about leupold service is right cheap or not I think the Rifleman is what I'll try. Even if I need to get it fixed ten times at least I'll only pay for it once.

You're a smart man! It is never too late to learn! I am fortunate enough to have joined this site. I have learned lots of interesting and very helpful tips and ideas.
Have fun with the new leupys. Have you thought about looking in the Exchange Forum? Leupolds will show up there once in awhile.

Bushnell Elite Series ....Heavier, shorter eye relief, and definitely not in the Leupold class. If service ever comes into the equation, it will just be one more reason why the Leupold is superior. On Hunting Rifles, Leupold is all I use, but I admit being a 6x42 "Slut" and think that that is one fine glass for 99.9% of all hunting I do. Varminting is different, as are rimfires. But Leupold still resides on most of them. Regards, Eagleye
