What is the closest distance the AO goes down to?
Leupold's website has, or used to have, that info buried in their reticle information pdf if I remember right. If it isn't there, their customer service folks are pretty quick to reply to questions. I asked them the same question about my scope before I bought it. I have the 6-18x40 AO version of the VX2, the advertised lower limit of that one is 30 yds. Mine will focus clearly down to just over 20 yards, probably 22 or 23. It's clear at 25, fuzzy at 20.
Because I shoot indoors at 20 yds during the winter, I got the 50 foot adapter that screws on the front of the objective lens thinking it should allow me to focus at 20 yards.
As luck would have it, it doesn't.. but it will work from about 10 yards up to 18 yards. Can't win for trying!
I ended up buying the VX3i 6.5-20 x 40 EFR for my rimfire and moved the 6-18 to my centerfire rifle. I don't regret it, both are nice scopes.
