Leupold rings which way to mount?

Hello there,

Buddy scott showed up with his new rifle rings and scope. Not familiar with the Leupold rings does the dovetail ring go on the front or rear of the gun. Thanks

if by dove tail you mean the one that you attach to the rifle by screwing the opposing two screws into to hold the ring on (and have some course windage adjustment before fine tuning with the adjustment on the scope) that usually goes to the rear of the action(and usually the drilled and tapped holes will only allow that anyways?

If you have what Leupold calls the STD base and rings the dovetail goes in front and the windage adjustment goes to the rear.. In most cases this would be obvious as the base screw holes would not match if placed in the reverse order. Some bases have a reversable front, rear or both and this allows you to turn the base around (not swap from front to rear) to allow for different mounting dimensions for various scopes.
