Maybe I am not using the right forum but since we are talking scope mount bases/rifle receiver compatibility, I wil try my luck here -first.

And my question is : Will the Leupold scope mount bases for Weatherby Vanguard rifles (namely STD Mark V 2-Piece, part number #51701, or STD Mark V RVF 2-Piece, part number #51703) fit the Howa Mini Action rifles ? (Those mounts have a matte finish but other finishes are also available for the very same mounts).

I sent an email to the good people at Korth Group and they told me to contact Leupold Tech service, which I did. The Leupold technician (nice guy) was a bit perplexed for a few seconds and he finally told me that part number #51701 and #51703 should fit the Howa Mini Action rifles. It was the first time he had to answer such a question. "Should" is the key word here. "Should" is good but not good enough.

So, is there someone here in the audience that has the final answer to my question - I mean someone who has succeeded in putting one of those Leupold scope mounts on a Howa Mini Action rifle ?

TIA

prophet river has the mini actions in stock right? Any chance they have those bases and can check it themselves for you?

No, Mark V is a different rifle then the Vanguard/Howa....
Vanguard/Howa and Rem 700 2 piece bases are all the same however part #50016

If you go the Leupold site, you will see that they have what they call a "Mount Finder" (Mounting Systems). Enter Howa 1500 in the "Mount Finder", follow the guide and look at what will come out of it in the end (STD mounts, 33 mm scope objective, under .300 Mag, two piece, matte finish). I took the mount numbers from their "Mount Finder".

The mount finder is wrong....same bases used on the Rem700 which is the part # I posted (matte finish). I have 4 Howa/Vanguard rifles...
Wish we could get these here for $350US like they can down south....jeebus.

Hitzy,

And just to muddy the water a little bit more, I still have on my lap, as I am typing this. a Leupold 2010 print catalog in which Part Numbers #51701 (STD Mark V 2-Piece) and # 51703 (STD Mark V RVF 2-Piece) - among others - are listed under Weatherby Vanguard (Long Action, Short Action) mount bases.
That was 6 years ago and Leupold did not see fit to straighten things up in the meanwhile.

What's going on here ?

In that same catalog, I can also see Leupold Part Number # 50016 for the Howa 1500 rifles. By some stroke of luck, would you happen to own a Howa Mini Action rifle - with those STD mount bases (#50016) on it ?

The mark V took the same base as the 700 Rem when they were made in Germany and Japan. Shortly after the started making them in USA they changed the profile slightly. Hole spacing is the same. Leupold brought out a different base even though the 700 would sort of work. The front base had to be slightly thicker than the 700's. The Vanguard and Howa also used the same base as the 700 but I believe that they changed the contour of the vanguard to match the Mark V. That is why weaver bases says that you will possibly require shims when using bases for the 700. I can't say that hows also chafed. It does not seem likely they would make 2 different contours but it also does not seen likely they would alter the action for weather by to chamber the 300 why and 375 H7H-neither of which you can get in the Howa. Different bases are listed because your rifle could have either profile.

Don't know why Leopold sight is wrong, maybe the webmaster is "overseas".

Look at the weaver mount chart above, look up Howa 1500, S&W 1500, Weatherby Vanguard, all the same rifle. Then look up the Mark V.... different bases.
Then check Rem 700.... same as the Howa/Vanguard.
Yes the mini takes the same bases.

You are absolutely right. With that kind of proof, we might say that the case is closed !

That I did not know but now I do. Thanks for the explanation. I always learn something new on CGN - and I like it that way.
