Leupold scope question

I just bought a used leupold VX-II scope from another CGN member but noticed that the writing of the word "Leupold" looks different than on the 7 other VX-II scopes I own.

All of my scopes have the word Leupold in big thick lettering whereas the newly aquired scope has it in very thin writing.

Is this just an older model scope?

Can anyone comment on this?

Probably counterfeit. Call Leupold with the serial number to check.

"Leupold employs serial number tracking for all its riflescopes, so if a customer finds a scope that is suspect, he or she can simply write down the serial number and call 1-800-LEUPOLD to confirm if it is indeed authentic."

Here is a picture from the origional ad in the EE vs. a pic from the Leupold site.

Your scope is authentic. they just changed the lettering style.

I have a 6x42 and some 4x's that have the same style lettering.

In less time than it took you to post here again with pic, you could have dialed tollfree 1-800-leupold and had the answer. I checked a Canadian sold MK4 at that number. They have a record of all legitimate serial numbers.

Call now.

Yeah -- and let us know what Korth says, if you would please??

I have one of each and I know the much older one that is marked like yours in your photo is legit because I had it (Vari-X II) reconditioned under warranty at Korth.(My other one is a new VX II that I bought at Jo Brooks).

I'll give them a call later. I'm at work and 45 min away from the scope to get the serial number. By the time I get home, Korth will be closed.

Funny enough, I've heard that the scope repair guy from Korth is going to be making an appearance at my SAIT gunsmithing night course to show us about properly mounting scopes, boresighting, etc.

I've noticed a LOT of mislabeled ads in the Optics classifieds forum. Many guys advertise VX-II scopes, when the pic they post CLEARLY shows that it's a Vari-X II scope, not a VX-II. There is a difference. You may have gotten an older Vari-X, rather than the newer VX.
