Leupold scopes and the cold Mk4 ?

I need some feedback here gents,

A few years ago I had two leupold vari-x (I forget which generation) in the 6.5 x 20 power.

Both of them did not like the cold. They had target turrets and the minute that it was below zero they froze up and any adjustments to either wind age or elevation would affect the other (the crossair would actually move at an angle)

That totally put me off from leupold since I had 2 scopes at 1k + each that I couldn't use in the winter.

So now a few years later I'm looking at a mark 4 (I know, a totally different animal) and wondering if I'm sinking cash in something that won't live up to expectations.

I'm now looking for anyone with actual experience that would make me feel less nautious at the idea of getting into leupold a again.

I don't want to spend 3k into a Zeiss or S and B.
 
I know what you mean regarding the cold weather non-performance of the older models. I've got 5 Mark 4s now and I spin those turrets like a aborigine starting a fire and they track no matter how cold it is. For what its worth my one and only Night-force does too.


Edit; make that six, should learn to count.

Thanks guys. It seems hard to find anyone that actually uses their guns in the field when it's cold never mind actually using the turret adjustments too. I'm finding myself looking at bushnell just because of this experience.
 
I know hey ! I just remember having to bring the gun back to a heated car between shots to get it zeroed lol. I know... Crappy vari-x 3 but still a 1k scope. It's looking like I'm going back to the world of leupold though. The bushnell tacticals just don't speak to me.
