Leupold Scopes

So I've been on here for quite awhile and one thing I have noticed is that Optic Brands go through cycles of What's hot, What's new, and What's not. Leupold was THE brand of scope a while back.

How do their scopes stack up against todays offerings like Nightforce, Sightron etc... ? All my old Leupold's are solid just wondering about their new stuff as it has been a while since I bought one.

Are they Hot or Not ?
 
I’ve got a few Vx3’s and VX2’s and I like them on my hunting rifles. They’re tough, the glass is more than decent and they have always tracked perfectly. For the price point they’re tough to beat.

I like Nightforce on my precision/ target rifles. I’m not familiar with the upper tier Leupold scopes.

I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another VX3 for a hunting rifle.
 
I have a bunch of the VX-2 line as well as the older VX-ii series on hunting riflesand they are great middle of the road options. As stated good glass for the money and hold zero very well. Cannot beat the warranty with Leupold.

I recently got into Nightforce for long range and 3 gun to see what all the fuss was about. I will say they aren't lying when they say you will ruin all the rest when you step up your glass.

That said for a recent long range rig I tried a Mark 5 Leupold and I really feel that this optic punches above it's weight class. It tracks great and is solid.

Can't go wrong with either mentioned brand.
 
I have two vx-6 HD in 4-24x52 and one vx5hd 3-15x44 and all are excellent scopes. Glass is great tracking has been spot on . One vx-6 is illuminated and I will say I have a Sig tango 6 and just picked up a trijicon accupower and they both have much more clearer illumination. But I still love my leupold.
 
I have 2 Leupold Mk5 5-25s (for my PRS match gun and backup gun) and really like them. They have good glass, good turrets, track perfectly, return to zero, and I've had zero issues with them, just really solid scopes (that's with easily 10k rounds split between the 2 of them). I know with regards to precision rifles that Leupold has been out of favour for a while (pretty much until the Mk5s came out), mostly because they never updated the Mk4s (which were solid but old tech), had issues with the turrets on the Mk6s and the Mk8s were priced so that only Uncle Sam would buy them... The Mk5s are great though.
 
I like them for hunting as they are compact, light and tough. For target shooting I have Bushnell and Zeiss which I find brighter/clearer.

Seems that Leupold did not connect with LR shooters who like reticles and twisting knobs.

Regular fudd hunters are well served with a Leupold who continue to support those products. Another factor is that there are so many used Leupolds on the EE, one does not have to buy new. The market is well saturated with them.

Lol, big knobs and goofy reticles are hot right now. I love the classic look myself and I'm certainly not an old timer. Just picked up a 3-9*40 Freedom. It is what it is, a quality low price scope. Very good eye relief though
..which was key for me. Just wish the knobs were more streamlined (classy)
 
I bought a vx6 hd like 4 months back i put 20 rounds through it and it had to go to leupold for warranty. That being said they fixed it and had it back in like 5 weeks. Its a very nice scope but not the best experience.
 
I have 2 vx3’s and a fixed power on my hunting rigs.
For a hunting rifle I wouldn’t think twice about buying another Leupold scope.
I have had other brands of scopes that work well and do their job, but several did not.
I found the vx3’s are reliable and they gained my trust.
They have not fogged, shifted POI or otherwise fallen apart when I subjected them to the rigours or hunting, year after year.
Many hunters I know have old Leupold scopes and have never experienced any issues.
Great value IMO.
 
Short version. Not a fan. Rude people at korth. Horrible customer service. Sold them. Have one left on my 375rum, vanity, it matches the color of the stainless....and hasnt broken...yet.

I have posted about my experiences before, usually gets someone from korth pming me....please dont bother, the time for that has past. Loops that come on trades go on the ee.
 
Im currently running a vari-x ii, a VX2, an FX3, FXII, and an M8. All function perfectly and all are on various hunting rifles. Most were bought used off the EE for way under new price and no issues on any of them.
 
I have had nothing but good experiences with both Leupolds and Korth. I own a couple dozen Leupold scopes, mostly VX-3's, and a few rangefinders and binos as well, I like them all.
 
I tried Vortex viper, Bushnell DMRII, and finally settled with Leupold VX-5, 3-15x44. A good long range scope might not be a good hunting scope. typically long range scope have robust build, they are pretty heavy, don't enjoy carrying heavy scope while hunting.
I'm a mid range hunter, dial for elevation and hold wind, VX-5 has the right combination for me, it's light weight, good light transmission and open elevation dial. I don't shoot past 400m, so the elevation turret doesn't need to be dead on accurate and robust like proper long range scope (NF). If you hunt longer range, Swarovski X5 would be a better choice, since it have more robust dials.
If I only hunt within 200m, I would probably get a Leupold vx-3, 1.5-5x20
If I only do long range target shooting, I would look into Night Force.
