Leupold Spotting Scope

Manfrotto makes outstanding tripods. Make sure, if you choose to buy one, that you don't get it from the gun-hating turds at Henry's Camera.

I use a Manfrotto Joystick head #222 http://www.manfrotto.com/Jahia/site/manfrotto/cache/off/pid/2311?livid=80|81&idx=83
coupled to a Manfrotto #035 Super Clamp http://www.manfrotto.com/Jahia/site/manfrotto/cache/off/pid/2718?livid=53&idx=54 via a short spigot with 3/8"-16 screw end.
The thing is clamped to the table and the scope clips to it by means of a quick release adaptor plate.
Setting up is real fast and requires only one hand for unlocking, aiming and locking on target. Since it is clamped to the table, there's no danger of seeing it crash to the ground as happens too frequently with tabletop tripods.
Price of the setup without scope: about $138.00 but you only buy this once.
PP. :)

Remember the better, most stable tripod will give you the best results especially at long range. Even if you are using a premium spotting scope if you use a cheap flimsy tripod on a day with any wind your image will not be sharp enough...solid and stable is everything. Phil.

Manfrotto does make good gear, but for range work you don't need to spend that much money. Booth photographic markets a good quality brand called Cameron. The come 3 dfifferent weights and are available with 3 different heads, should be quite a bit less than Manfrotto product. Slik make decent quality tripods. FS
