Leupold spotting scopes

I bought a Mark 4 Spotting scope w/ TMR Reticle at P-D. Couldn't be happier, give Phil a call, you will not be dissapointed.

Actually I am not very impressed with the Optical Quaility of Leupolds spotting scopes it pales in comparrison to the optical quailty of their MKIV scopes . for the money they vcharge for there spotting svopes I would have figured that the clarity and light transmission would be on Par or well anead of there MKIV scopes but that is just an observation

That is your opinion which you are entitled to of course. I have both Mark 4 rifle scopes and spotting scopes and find the optics on the spotting scope to be excellent. Shooting recently with buddies, there were 3 scopes being used, a Zeiss, Swarovski and the Mark 4 and the general consensus was the Mark 4 was superior on that day. The Mark 4 although lower power and the cheapest in price which is a relative term was able to show rounds at a greater distance that the higher power Zeiss, even when both were at the same power.That is just an observation. Talk to 5 so called experts and get different opinions.

Are you by chance comparing a Sequoia Spotting scope?
Keep in mind that Leupold offers 3 levels of product in spotting scopes;
-Sequoia competes with the lower end spotters
-Gold Ring gets some very excellent optics
-Tactical Mark IV goes 1 more step with reticles for ranging

We're talking spotting scopes right? The Leupold Gold Ring HD certainly can hold it's own against Ziess, Swarz, Kowa (not sure about Leica). That was a general consenscous at a match I was at where some pretty high end stuff was present for casual comparison.

No the Tactical MKIV, Dollar for Dollar value the the Leupold MKIV spotting scope is a poor investment when compared the likes of Lieca,Kowa ,Ziess ans Swarz spotting scopes .Remember that a spotting scope must be able to do more than look at a target which the Leupold can do it must offer optical clarity to actually read the mirage and follow the bullet trace into the target which the Leupold MKIV does at best marginally.You get what you pay for

Again your opinion,5 different guys will give you 7 different opinions. You must have missed my previous comment about the Zeiss scope we were using in addition the the Mark4 and Swarovski. The Mark 4 out performed the Zeiss including while spotting and following the bullet trace into the tgt.

EC yes it my opinion have you used any of the other brands of spottings scopes BTW the Ziess you used was it the military model spotting scope or the comercial version
