My last set of Talley's were defective I think. The elevation was out even when max dialed (new VX3 on a new rifle). I swapped the scope onto another rifle hoping it wasn't the scope and it aligned fine. Tried reinstalling the Talley's same deal. I mostly use Sako and Leupold QR's which are great and seem to hold zero just fine. Thinking about trying Leupold STD rings? Turn in front, with rear screw. Looks strange, but do they work well?

If cost is a factor, believe it or not Weaver rings and bases work amazingly well on kickers. I've run them up to a 340 Wby, also on my 8 Rem Mag. Not much has sharper recoil than that. Heavier than that one of the slotted mounts with a recoil shoulder. FWIW - dan

I've got weaver bases on my 9.3x62. I chose them for their weight. My biggest comment is "stop using slotted screws, you dicks! It's 2016!" I've tried the weaver rings 3 or so times, and between the giant gouges they leave in the scope finish, and the massive pain they are to set the scope level, I'm done with them.

I went with Vortex Viper rings... Only because they're aluminum. The Viper rings took a lot of hand work and needed to be lapped (I hate lapping rings, and Talley lightweights and Leupold Standard rings have never needed it!) to make them acceptable. Not one edge was deburred prior to anno. The machining was very nice aside from that, and I'll never buy them again. $100? Somebody's smoking crack!

If somebody made Warne rings out of aluminum, I'd hump their leg.

I got a set on my mauser. Mind you its not a heavy hitter. But they are not light, then again neither is my mauser.

Dad got a set on his FN 98 and been great to him for 15 years.

Try the dual dovetail, it's a very strong mount that I use presently on a 375 H&H. Realistically the STD should do fine. It works well on my 300 win mags.

We mount hundreds of scopes per year and the Leupold Std mount rings are the ones we use the most because of the initial quality and the ability to adjust gross windage problems before using all the adjustment of the scope itself. They require minimal lapping (if at all) and for the money are a good deal. The only down side to this style of mount is if you repeatedly spin the front ring (dovetail) on and off. Eventually this could result in metal compressing and scuffing resulting in a loose fit between the ring and base. We usually put a dab of lube when assembling to minimize this problem. If the ring will be removed often then a weaver style base and ring will be a better choice. Phil.

TPS rings in 7075, HRT models in low are nice hunting rings and the reticle doesn't move when you tighten them down

Phil I am assuming there is some adjustment in the rear screw for windage or? I didn't know that about those rings. I have ordered the Leupold STD base / rings as well as Warne 2pc base and Leupold PRW rings to try that combo out. A little bit heavy but if they're solid....thx for all of the suggestions

Those are the mounts/rings I use most often. They are solid and durable. As noted above, great for gross windage adjustments before using the scopes adjustment range. My only complaint is that the modern renditions of this classic set-up use stupidly narrow slots in the screw heads, and it makes for easy screwdriver slippage. Easy fix, cut the slots lower with a dremel cutting wheel.

I get mine colour case hardened, and that virtually eliminates this problem.

The front ring swings from side to side by adjusting the rear screws right or left. Very solid is mounted properly. Phil.

What rifle are you using the Talleys on? In some cases the rings have the same screw spacing, but the heights are not the same.
