Leupold vs bushnell

Well my good friend lost his entire rifle collection to this years forest fires. All was in burn proof safes and he didn't have to space or time to get them out. Everything was black and melted. His scopes consisted of hi end leupolds and 4200-6200 series bushnells all losses. He contacted both companies leupold said sorry no warranty ( I understand there point) bushnell said what did you have? Ok they are in the mail sorry for your loss.

Not bad on there part me thinks

Bushnell scope with a.bent turret off to service tomorrow. It's one.of.their pricey ones..... lifetime, no question warranty. Pleasant, unhurried, and helpful technician. Got out of almost all of my Leupold. Seem to have a.bunch of Bushnell.....3200 and 4200 low variables because of where I live, three tactical 10x 40s on rimfires, two 6500s I got rather cheap....but don't really like,.and a few lower scopes ....legend..etc on lighter calibers.

Guess I'm a Bushnell guy....when did that happen? Have.to see how.the.service goes......never had to do this before.
 
Insurance is certainly available for whatever amount your collection is worth, and cheaply at that. Sorry, but if my house burns down, I won't even consider asking a manufacturer to cover my losses. Doing so is abusing the warranty, which increases costs for all of us. Not kosher.

Why is it abusing the warranty if he told the manufacturer what happened and they decided to replace his scopes anyway?
In actuality, they're not even warrantying the scopes. They are gifting him new ones to replace what was lost in the fire.

Absolutely AGREE with you ! ct smiths good friend gets FREE scopes while we pay for them - Manufactures warranty should ONLY ever cover the product during its intended useage ! Find to cover scopes when damaged out in the field etc BUT to give a guy free scopes from them burning in a house fire ? WTF ! NAH ! jmo RJ

Just seems like great PR to me.

What's a scope cost a company like Bushnell? 7or 8 bucks?
 
Had 2 warranty repairs with my Leupolds and Korth fixed both of them without a problem or charge.
Had 1 with a Bushnell scope and their repair people took care of me as well.
They fixed my scopes for nothing and that's what it's all about.
Both batting 1000 so far.
 
I have been turned away quite a few years back from bushnell warranty dept. they told me the scope was "shot out" and past the warranty period. That was about 8 years ago. It turned me away from ever buying bushnell. Im glad to see this policy has changed, but they still lost me. Oh well, Im just one person.

Similar thing for me, except Leupold. Leupold was the standard for.warranty, now everyone else is.there, and.beyond.

All good for consumers, expensive items backed and guaranteed. If.the company makes a mistake with materials.....it's.on them. Others manufacture were labor is cheap, and can afford to just hand out a.new optic at 5-10% retail.... Vortex.
 
if anyone is looking for a top end scope with primo quality and high end optics but they want a lifetime replacement no matter what happens then i guess you will never own a S&B-Trijicon-Khales--Tangent etc as these scopes offer manufacturer defect warranties and not for lost in the fire or i ran over my scope wiith a truck can i have a new one--sad but true.
 
Heard lots of good things about Bushnell warranties lately ie. Don't ship problem back just hand over the counter replacements . Probably good competition has made them kick it up some over the years . 2 cents

I agree. Manufactures do factor in their prices, warranty claims, production right-offs, customer support labour, etc, etc, etc ... But I guess it's easier to shoot an e-mail "just to try it" then it is to be on the phone with your insurance company... Yeah, uncool to say the least.
 
We have had plenty of leupolds and bushnells including bausch & lombs and the problems were very few.
We sent one defective Leupold back a few years ago stateside and had it back repaired within 2 weeks.
It’s a different repair center but the level of service was top notch.
We’ve had proletariat bushnell banner scopes on 22s that never screwed up.
Tough scopes.

Right...he wasn't fishing for whatever he could get when he called. Having just lost everything, he had nothing but time on his hands, so he decided to call them just to shoot the breeze, and the subject of the fire coincidentally came up.

Gifting??? Call it whatever you want...even something as silly as "gifting"...the cost of those scopes came out of your pocket and mine. It just goes to show that gall is something that can be rewarded, especially when combined with a total lack of any sense of fair play and personal responsibility.

A few years back my Jeep was stolen while parked in Toronto. I should have called the manufacturer...maybe they would have "gifted" me another one. Silly me; I had paid for insurance to cover such an eventuality, so I relied upon that.
