I'm looking for a scope for my AR, and have come across a few, all seem comparable.
Burris Fullfield TAC30 1-4x24 556 reticle - $399 no tax - local
Burris MTAC 1-4x24 Ballisticplex CQ reticle $499 no tax local
Leupold VX-R 1.25-4x20 (unsure of the reticle options) $529 no tax local
Vortex Viper 1-4x24 $529-549 (@ sfrc) unsure of which reticle to pick and why..

What do you all think? I'm going to be getting the Vortex mount, unsure if I'm going quick release or not.

Anything else that I should consider in that price range? Would like to keep it as a tube design and not a bell shape for the front lens and would really like a little more range.
Also, there is a leupold VX3 without the illuminated reticle, I think its about $100-150 less than the VXR...is it worth it?

And the burris TAC30 and MTAC... Is the MTAC really worth $100 more, and why?

Thanks.

While I don't know much about the scopes you're looking at, I do feel obligated to point out that SFRC does not sell to canadians. I was recently looking at getting a christmas gift for a friend from them, and got told "no".
What?
Sfrc aka "the ammo source"...that's where I bought my ar from.

ok here is my take...

Burris Fullfield TAC30 1-4x24 556 reticle - $399 no tax - local (Have it... it's a good scope for the money... optics not quite as clear as the Leupold or Vortex. I'd rate it third place)
Burris MTAC 1-4x24 Ballisticplex CQ reticle $499 no tax local (No Comment - Don't have)
Leupold VX-R 1.25-4x20 (unsure of the reticle options) $529 no tax local (First place... I have the Zombie model on my AR and I love this scope! First Place!)
Vortex Viper 1-4x24 $529-549 (@ sfrc) unsure of which reticle to pick and why.. (Good Glass, have it mounted on my M&P15-22... Second Place)

Who has the Leupold for $529? Unless we're talking about a different scope, everyplace I look has them for ~$700?

Mtac vs Tac30. They both have the same reticle. The Mtac has a more user friendly illumination adjustment. The Mtac has a zoom ring that turns idependent of the ocular lens. The Tac30's ocular turns with the ring as your adjusting magnification(I actually prefer it this way as its easier to manipulate with gloves or absense of a fast throw lever) I handled both for quite some time before ending up with the Burris XTR 1-4x24( I prefered the reticle, simular to the Vortex or Hi Lux CMR ) I believe with either of the two Burris scopes you will be happy.

Leupold VX-R. Owning this and never actually fielding it I decided to list it for sale. It is a very high quality optic with excellent glass. My only reason for not keeping it and it may help others was and this is only my personal experience with it. Being that it is a 1.25 power I had issues being able to aquire target( just at home, not actually shooting) with both eyes open. Too me that is the main purpose of having a true 1x scope. Others will find differently of course, I just reccomend looking thru it first. Amazing little optic with a nice un cluttered reticle.

Vortex Viper. Never owned but have used and is a excellent optic and if I hadnt gone with the Burris XTR would have been my next choice

I just recently got the Mtac. I love it. The only down side is the dot is 2 MOA, so accurate shooting past 100 yards is not ideal for this scope. But the plus side to the 2 MOA dot is you can acquire targets very fast. Very easy to keep both eye's open and stay on target. Very Crisp and clear Glass/retical

Also take a look @ the Burris P.E.P.R mount it's cheaper than the Vortex and is a great mount

Who has the Leupold for $529? Unless we're talking about a different scope, everyplace I look has them for ~$700?
Leupold is @ LeBaron, its $529 and no tax this month, but I'm a member and get 10% off anyway so can miss the extra 3% off, not a huge deal.

Thanks for the info guys.

Edit-
That xtr and mount with the reflex sight on top looks great on the burris site...
Ya the leupold 1.25-4 is a little of a downer considering the others are a true 1x and go to a true 4x...they offer a little more optical zoom choices.

Ill look into that mount...any idea where to get it?

If interested, I have a Nikon M223 1-4 that is not seeing any use.

Give me a PM or email.

Personal scope.

Hi Jerry,
Generally I'm not a fan of used firearms or optics, I find lebaron usually has them for the same price or cheaper than most people on here ask for it used (prime example that VX-R) as well as I take great care of my belongings.
But seeing that you are a dealer on here pm me what you are asking for it and ill do some reading on it as well.

Ideally I would be looking for one that has a 1.5-5 or -6x24. I was looking at the vx-r 2-7x32 but the actual/true optical zoom comes up as it being a 2.8-7x32.
Anyone know of any scopes closer to these spec? I've had trouble finding anything.

any opinions of the bushnell elite 6500 1.25-8x32?
this is more of the optical range im looking for unfortunately it is a 32 and not 24 but i think i can live with that, also it is only $372, i think its sold out right now @ lebaron but im sure i can find it somewhere.

if i get it and dont like it for the AR its probably going to end up on the remington 870

The Trijicon TR24 Accupoint is a very nice optic if you are willing to consider going above your price range.
