Hey CGN, I'm thinking about upgrading the scope on my Savage Axis 22-250 to a Leupold vx2 3-9x40 cds. I do a bit of calling coyotes and also get shooting at coyotes on our farm. I thought that the cds would be nice because I know the ranges of different landscapes and then there would be less guesswork as to holdover. Also it's hard to look through the Bushnell that comes with the axis once you have better scopes on other guns. Any likes or dislikes of the cds?

My VX-2 3-9X40 scope (non CDS model) needs a round to be fired before the reticle will move after an adjustment. The CDS system would do nothing. It took me over a hundred rounds trying to zero my 270 to figure this out... That's folding money.
This is true of 3 of my 5 Leupold scopes... One of which I haven't used yet. So 3 of my 4 scopes, I suppose.
My latest scope comes with a free CDS dial, and I won't even bother ordering it.
This is pure conjecture, but I think a bean counter in purchasing switched to a cheaper lubricant for the internals, and it's too gummy.
I still buy Leopold because 'murica, and the Leupold/Korth Group service is astonishingly good.

Wow I'm surprised, no love for the VX2's, I have a Ultimate Slam on my slug gun (which I was told is based on a vx2) and i know from zeroing last fall that it tracks flawlessly. If I had one that didn't track I'd be sending it to Korth.

I spent a couple hundred dollars getting the thing zeroed. I don't care enough about the issue to pull it off the gun, fly it around in planes, put it back and zero it all over again.
Besides, when my VX-6 had an inclusion in a lens, Korth sent me a new scope. 3 of 4 Leupold scopes I've owned had this tracking problem. If I send it to them, will they replace or repair? When the replacement has a 75% chance of having the same problem, why bother? The gun is a frigging death ray now. All good.
And I'll still buy Leupold!
