Leupold Vx-2 vs Vx-3 glass

The eyebox of the vx2 3-9 and the vx3 3.5-10 are much better than if you step up a level to the 4-12 or 4.5-14.
For this reason, I like the vx2 3-9-40 as much as any Leupold

Vx3 has a warmer color to the image, but i find it has a bit of a black ring on both ends of the magnifications with a sweet spot in the middle.

Vx2 has a cooler, floruensent light type color, no ring around image.

New VX-2's are missing the focus lock ring on the eyepiece, that's a deal breaker for me.

Definitely a factor for me as well, I have a VX2 6-18x40 AO that is near perfect except for that. The focus ring should be a set it and forget it item IMO. It takes a bit of force to actually turn the eyepiece, fortunately.

So if one isn’t into CDS or fancy reticles, the VX1 sounds like a hell of a bargain?

I have been interested to read what people thought of these as the 2-7x33 VX 1
Looks like a good option for an ultralight build?

I bought a VX1 3-9 x 40 on the EE a year or so ago, clarity is excellent (on par with VX2) and it holds zero well. The only downside is less than crisp click adjustments. It's not a huge problem once you're zeroed, but annoying just the same. My VX2 doesn't have the same feel, it has very well defined clicks.
