Hi,
are we talking the same scope or its two different technology ?
I try to get more info of my last purchase and Im getting a bit confuse between the the vx-III and vx-3 lines. Mine has VX-III written on the golden ring and the serial number has a suffix letter T and Its a 1'' inch tube diameter

Thanks for your input !

Your VX-111 is a second generation Leupold that replaced the Vari-X 111. It was in turn replaced with the VX-3, which has a few changes like glass and IIRC a upgraded lens-coating which does improve optical quality a bit. Not enough for me to run out and replace all my VX-111s with VX-3s but enough to notice and enough that I don't go looking for dusty old stock to save a few bucks on new purchases.

Another upgrade is what Leupold calls "double bias erector assembly springs" and everyone I know calls "Mark 4 springs" whether we exactly correct or not. That coincided with the CDS system, so I concluded that the heavier springs were to avoid lazy elevation adjustments on the dial yardage system.

All things being equal a VX3 should fetch slightly more than a Vari-X III. Say they were both the same scope (ie 3.5-10x40 Duplex, gloss) and both NIB unopened on the EE then you could expect the VX3 to fetch a bit more...maybe $50. Once they've been hung on rifles it becomes a much murkier proposition to value them and they start to become much of a muchness.
