I had one on my XCR and aside from hating MRAD I loved it. The glass is very good for the money. Clarity, resolution and colors were, in my own words, "what I should see when I look through a scope". The illumination is a one button affair with a memory so it returns to the setting you were using when turned back on. It is daytime visible but not that nuclear glow of an aimpoint. If you need that much brightness you're probably too blind to shoot or trying to shoot into space on a sunny day. Do it at night instead. For the rest of us there are no issues picking it up quick like an RDS. Like most 1-4s there is some distortion on 1.25x but you get used to it quick. The eye box is huge! With a half decent cheek weld you'll find it about as quick as a reflex, never having to chase your sight picture. On 4x all distortion goes away and the VX-R glass really shines. I didn't shoot at 800 yds but I pulled the scope off to check out treelines and oilfield leases at that distance and was thoroughly impressed and satisfied with the optical quality. That's no easy feat for me, I'm picky as f**k about glass. The clicks could use a little more tension and a more solid stop between clicks. The turrets are nicely marked but were a tad mushy for my liking. Not in a bad way, just something I'd like to see improved upon. Fit and finish is Leupold, zero dissapointment. Bottom line is Im always nervous dropping big coin on optics and this one met all my expectations except the turrets. If they were MOA (my preference only) and a little stiffer I would love this scope long time. I say if the cheaper options aren't floating your boat but you're not sure you're ready to drop $1300 on an NF then the Leupold is your best bet.
