Leupold VX2 ??

The Nikon circle doesn't seem like it would be an accurate aiming point at distance....haven't tried one but was turned off when viewing them at the gun store, went with the Leupold.

I upgraded my two hunting rifle's Bushnell XLT 3-9x40 scopes to the same model Leupold VX2. The improved clarity and light transmission is quite noticeable, especially at lower light levels when you need it most. The size and weight are also a plus.

Leupold makes a good product - no argument there.

If you like their reticle better, or think they are more clear or have better brightness then all the others, then there is nothing to compare or argue about.

But you do pay a premium for Leupold because they are made, packaged and marketed from the US and that IS built into the price.

There is no way that they can offer the same features as a scope made in the Philippines for a similar price point - not when the American workers are making more in a day than the Filipino worker makes in two weeks (plus, here in Canada, with our buck in the tank it has a "greater effect" on a US sourced product then even a US "corporate product" sourced from overseas).

Because of that you see differences, particularly in their better lines between them and their competition, with the competition offering, for example, front focal (FFP) in scopes in the 500-700 range, while a VX-R from Leupold comes in at 800 bucks (with similar zoom/lens sizes) uses a "cheaper to produce" rear focal.

YOU really need to get somewhere that you can pick up a few different brands in your price range and look through them yourself.

Just because 9 out of 10 guys LOVE Optic X doesn't mean you will. And you are the one that is going to have to live with your choice.

I have several vx2's in various shapes and sizes. I like them. Are they my favourite scopes? No, I have other brands/models that I prefer but I feel they represent good value and have good warranty.

Nearly every Leupold that I own was purchased either new on sale or used in excellent condition.

Sightron SII BigSky, SIII, Swarovski Z3, even an original Zeiss Conquest (in the 3-9x40 version at least). These brands/models all offer what I feel are certain advantages over most midrange Leupold scopes however Leupolds do tend to be some of the lightest and trimmest scopes in any mag range. They are also tough as nails but if one ever does fail, you simply pop it in the mail to Okotoks and have it back in your hands in 10 days or less, good as new.

I have a VX2 and a VX3. I haven't had any problems with them but the variable power/eye relief is bothering me more than it used to. That and the tubes are so bloody short that they can present mounting challenges.

I looked through scopes at Cabelas and compared almost everything they had on display. The Swarovski Z3 was my favourite overall. The optics were fantastic, and the scope is fairly light and compact(suitable for a hunting rifle that gets carried).

I have 2, a 3-9x36 and a 3-10x40. Good price: performance ratio in my opinion.
