Hello,

I'm currently using 6-24 and 8-32x40mm B&L and Bushnell scopes for target work at 20 to 50 yards (meters). Thinking about upgrading to a Leupold 6.5-20x40mm EFR with a target dot and turrets.

Are there any alternatives with close focus and similar build quality that I should be considering at this price point and hopefully much lower?

Thanks!

I thought the Leupold VX-L, and most leupold rifle scopes for that matter, are focused at 150 yards. At least that was the info I got when I purchased one.

If by saying "focused" you mean parallax free, then you are correct. Most Leupold scopes intended for big game hunting are parallax free at 150 yds. I believe the question is one of actual focus on the target and this is where EFR (extended focal range) scopes come into play. These scopes allow the user to focus on very close targets some being 10 or less yards away and often are used on air and rimfire rifles . Phil.

Ahhh Yes, I meant Parallax free, thanks. Don't mean to hijack the thread but I was wondering if you could explain it a little more. EFR would not be an adjustment like the side focus parallax adjustment but the actual ability of the scope to focus on close objects??? Forgive my ignorance but I don't know a lot about scopes :) Thanks

Yes, EFR means "Extended Focus Range", it focus/parallax down to 10m, up to infinity.
I have a 6.5-20x40mm EFR Target on the shelve right now, I switched to a more powerfull scope on my 308 'cause I shoot long range only, I may put the Leupold EFR on the EE board soon, it's a pricey rig that I don't use right now.

I use the 6.5-20x EFR on rimfire rifles. It's a fantastic scope for rimfires especially when shooting indoors at 20 yards, or the 25 yard mark. Everything else comparable might go down to 50 yards, or lower magnifications down to 30 yards but that's it. Pricey though, and I wouldn't use the EFR for Centerfire. There are other choices out there that are better suited for the centerfire target shooter and not too many people do target shooting at 20 yards with a centerfire and magnified scope.
