Leupold VX3 vs Zeiss Conquest vs Nikon Monarch

I love my redfields.... I have bought a nice varmint rifle that I have been seeking for a long time.... I am looking for glass..... my first instinct is Leupold (as they make Redfield) but I am open to options.....

The bottom line is that the 3 scopes OP mentioned are technically in the same class.... it's kind of a personal preference thing......
 
Redfield are a very good kept secret, love it on my Icon for deer hunting and since you dont have to mortgage the house to have one they are a great value, i use them on a regular basis... JP.

I am well aware of everything he owns as is everyone on CGN, and it's always the best by a mile.
I will call BS when I see fit, and myself and others have had to correct him before on some of the more outlandish claims.



Back to the two scopes in question, the Conquest is a decent scope...no argument there. I would never feel lacking hunting with one.
Mine went down the road because it was 3 ounces heavier with a bulkier eyepiece than the comparable VX-3 with no real advantage in optical quality to my eyes.
It is not miles ahead optically or mechanically to a VX-3, no matter how much KOOL-AID you're drinking. Or are we talking VX-III here?
They both have a few different features that may or may not make them more appealing to certain people {reticules,weight,price,warranty etc.}

I am willing to bet my left nut that you could have 90% of the general public look through each scope without knowing which brand it was at different times of the day and be able to tell only very subtle differences in all optical categories.

During uneven light days (sunny days) a bright, clear and sharp scope such as the Zeiss will pick out animals in shaded area's better than other brand name scopes. In deep dark forest areas this will help weather it is sunny or overcasted.
It's not good eyesight that notices a difference in brightness, clarity and sharpness, but a trained eye that knows the difference. Between my son and I we have Zeiss, Swarvoski, and Leupold and the Zeiss is the brightest, sharpest and clearist.
I've always purchased scopes with 40mm objective lens, but recently I purchase the 50mm objective lens.............wider field of view, brighter and it's a Zeiss.

Which model? Since all the above manufacturers offer different levels of scopes, you'd have to specify which exactly you're referring to. A Zeiss Conquest has no chance against a Swarovski Z5/Z6 or a Leupold VX7/VX6/LPS, for example.
 
Pretty clear after 52 posts its down to a Conquest or VX3.
Personally I went to a Conquest but it was mostly due to price.
$477.00 for the Conquest and the best deal on a VX3 at the time was about $600.00
IMO you should be proud if you own either; they are both damned good scopes and to most the differences are minimal to non existant.
Even money I'm not sure which way I would have gone.
 
Take the scope back. They misinformed.

Zeiss or VX3 is fine. Get the 2.5-8x33mm if you want a nice light compact scope with an excellent view.

The 6x42mm FX3 is also stellar.

These are both on my want list so buy them to vicariously satisfy me! I have the FXII 6x36mm and really like it.

My Zeiss 2.5-8x32mm is a little porky, but the view is nice. It will likely reside on a rifle where I'm not angling for low weight.
 
In the US leupold and comparable Zeiss scopes are priced the same in Canada the same scopes, the Zeiss is always cheaper by $150 or more, due to leupolds markups. Zeiss are a better buy. The nikon scope bought was wrongly represented.
