I am looking for a 3-9X40 scope to put on top of a 30-06 bolt action rifle. I need it for hunting big game, and I wanna spend around $200-$250 Cdn. Which scope is better the Bushnell or Leupold? Is there a better 3-9X40 in this price range that I am overlooking?

I have a Bushnell 3200 3-9x40 on my 30-06 bolt and it is great. I also have a Leupold VXI 3-9x40 on my 25-06, great also but if I was buying another it would be the Bushnell.

Personally I've had 3200's and they are decent scopes but I feel the Leupold is better. I currently have a VX1 on a muzzleloader and it is clearer and is a lot brighter in low light conditions then any 3200 I've ever owned. Also there is more eye relief with the leupold. I believe leupold weighs a little less as well.
If it were me I would say Leupold all the way. Bought my last one from a dealer off the board and the price was great and fast shipping

3200

As much as I like Leupold scopes I have to say the 3200 is a better value. At the $200-$300 range, RainGuard is unmatched.

I got caught in rain, snow and freezing rain a few times, RainGuard works really well. Although I haven't tried my VXIIIs under the same conditions, I doubt if they would perform as well.

So is there a walk away favourite as far as quality and performance is concerned?

Bushnell 3200
Leupold VXI
Burris Fullfield II
Nikon Buckmaster

Rank them in order of quality please.

1. Burris FFII
2. Bushnell 3200 - maybe should be # 1; only looked through a few but they were (to my eye) not quite the equal of the Burris.
3. Nikon
4. Leupold - quality not quite as good as above.

My thoughts; yours may differ

the 3200 are good but i like leupolds waurenty better than the rest. burris are returned to us for waurety and busnell can take for ever where leopolds are returned in about a week.

Vortex Diamondback....great scopes....vortex makes very nice optics. But if its between leupold and bushnell I would go with the elite 3200. Actually they sell 3-9x40 4200's alot cheaper than other 4200 models, usually around 300, I would spend the extra and get a 4200, they are great scopes, blow a vx-II clean outta the water and give the vx-III a decent run for their money!
