Leupold warranty troubles !!!

Sounds like there is a few guys that like to spout without knowing all the facts, Phil is right, Korth is the sole distributor in Canada and always will be for Leupold. Pricing is not gauged at any level and certainly not from Korth despite the airy fairey 35% difference someone pulled out of their ass. Through a fair dealer such as P&D or Reliable (to mention a few only)you will find pricing very comparible to most US stores which do not have to pay GST or provincial sales taxes and contend with setting a purchasing USD amount, keep in mind that Leupold has dealer direct accounts throughout the US as well and there is no distribution costs.
As far as the warrantty work being denied, currently this is a strategy to try to stem a big box chain from purchasing in the states and moving product to sell across the border into Canadian stores, it is a move to protect the dealers in place, not a move to punish consumers at all! Do not take it personally.

... If you have a warranty issue with Nightforce you have to send it back to the USA for warranty service. ....

Yes, however, as we have the permits already in place, there is actually very little delay in getting a warranty scope jobn done. Regardless of where it has to go!

How does a purchaser of a pre-owned Leupy know if the scope came across the border legally or not. Seems that the lifetime warranty doesn't hold water
if the current owner is penalized unknowingly.

Well its a nice thought to not take it personally but hey it does effect us consumers personally. I don't think Id buy any other brand of scope anymore but Leupold is skating on thin ice in Canada, not like we make any difference.

Alot of people bash Bushnell based mostly on poor warranty, bad customer service ect...Is Leupold going that route now?? When I phoned they were polite but they were sure digging for info on who I bought my scope from.

This situation is no different than GM or Chrysler refusing to warranty vehicles purchased in the U.S..They simply want to make more money for the product by cheating Canadians. It's not the dealers fault, they just end up caught in the middle.

A friend of mine just bought a new Leupold from an American dealer with all the proper paperwork and it only took about 4 weeks total from applying for the import permit until it was at his door, it was very easy to do and he saved almost $300 over buying it in Canada. So how is Korth supposed to know that this scope was legally imported I doubt that the American company put the serial number into some kind of Leupold master importation database. I think that they are just #####y because there monopoly has been breached.

They are assuming that all legal scopes flow through them. Not so.

Point me to any store in Canada that will sell me a Matte VXIII 2.5-8 x 36mm for $399 and I'll take 2 of them.

That's right, there isn't one that can match it, the cheapest here is $539.;)

$399 x 1.35 = $539.;)

This proper exportation could not have been done in 4 weeks including shipping. The Canadian import documents take a least 2-3 weeks, the US export certificate takes 2-3 months. With shipping this would take at least another 1 to 2 weeks for it to clear customs. What this dealer did was likely just shiped it to Canada without the required import/export documentation. If it was this easy and fast I would deal directly with the US on most of my purchases. Remember it is not the Canadian rules that restict and slow down ( and increase costs) the shipment...it is the US regulations. Phil.

I can point you to a dealer that will sell you that scope for $425. How many do you want?

Thats a great deal. Too bad the dealers in my area are all over priced. Funny how the squeaky wheel gets the oil. blargon points out the obvious and all of a sudden it is possible to purchase a particular Leupold scope in Canada for a reasonable price relative to US pricing.
Between the US market and the Canadian market someone is getting rich by sticking it to the Canadian customer.
For people living close to the border it is easy to make a family day trip to the States and shop at various outdoor stores and pick from a wide variety of Leupold scopes at a greatly reduced price. ;)
Oh yah, I realize your not supposed to bring them across the border but then again there are a lot of things we aren't supposed to do.

Even considering all of the complaints mentioned previously by some members of this board, Leupold optics are easily our best selling optics brand. My biggest problem is getting product in stock when I need them. I know that members of this board are a little more savy about international pricing than the average walk in customer but relative to all the makes of optics I have in stock most customers still see Leupold as one of the better buys (cost vs performance and warranty). We will soon have a complete list of Leupold on our web site but just for comparison this morning I pulled down Cabellas and Basspro's pricing on the VX-7 2.5-10x45 (Boone & Crocket) at $1499.99 and our price is $1649 (about 10 % more). Now if you consider that the Canadian $ this morning is trading at 97. 16 US (and you can add 1 to 2 cents more for real $ exchange pricing then I think were pretty close to pricing in the US. Now this was comparing against the big guys (box stores that buy direct from the manufacturer)in the US not your rank and file stand alone gun store like us and most of our competitors in Canada. Since Cabellas now owns SIR I wonder if they are matching their US equivilant pricng. Also since Bass Pro is in Canada now they should be cleaning up in the Leupold market in Canada as they bring their own inventory north. Phil.

I am thinking this is aimed at all the scopes being bought on eBay by Canadians. The dealers on eBay ship to Canada all the time but from what I understand of the regulations they are in violation of the US rules so its possible that it could be these scopes that they are trying to check for?

Hey HP75,

People like you are the reason that scopes are getting more expensive, try to support local dealers like the rest of us, yes it is a bit more expensive to buy up here but buying up here keeps the economy up and the prices reasonable, so what your saying is that you bring these up legally.
