I had to come to Portland, Oregon for a business trip to buy some equipment for our shop. While I was on my way here, it kind of dawned on me that Leupold is also in the state of Oregon. I had lots of meetings and work to do to get all my equipment ready to ship and didn't have a lot of extra time. I thought I'd phone Leupold, just for fun, to see if I could come for a tour of their facility. After all, I do own 4 Leupold scopes and really like them. I left a message with a fellow there and he called me back and invited me for a tour. I arrived there yesterday afternoon and spent 2 hours touring the entire facility. I watched how the make scope tubes out of Aluminium blanks, how the place the erector systems in, how they make the different reticles. How they test them. It takes them 14 minutes to completely manufacture a scope from start to finish. The CNC equipment they have there is worth several million dollars. The scopes are all assembled by hand and inspected many times. They even have a 100 yard indoor target range. When I went into the target range, there were a couple of big shot Leupold guys holding a Cooper Arms rifle and discussing mounting a scope on it. I'll tell you right now that that Cooper Rifle was without a doubt, the nicest rifle I have ever seen in my life. When the tour was over, this fellow invited me back to his office where he unlocked his filing cabinet and gave me an oilskin ballcap that said Leupold 1907-2007 on it and 100 years on the side. He also gave me a Leupold Keychain, some crests, stickers and a Leupold lens pen. I was really impressed with the entire operation. I'm looking forward to buying my next scope already.

That is really neat...they sure know how to treat their customers, don't they?

Leupold is my hands down favorite scope.

I love Leupolds too. And another great thing is that any warranty work or repairs or reticle cahnges, etc... are done right here in Canada...Okotoks, Alberta. Great turn around time. I sent in a few scopes for reticle changes.

Maybe some day I'll take the same tour at the factory...it sure would be neat to see.

X2!! Eagleye.

Leopold is my favorite scope co. also.

I swear by the old Bausch & Lomb stuff, and the Bushnell Elites are good too.

Leica, Zeiss, Swarovski are too expensive for me.

Good for you to take the shot and give them a call. You saw something some of us will never get the chance to see. I'll bet that place is fantastic. A place where quality is made.

Nicely done.

they aren't stupid-look at all the free advertising they got from treating you well.Too bad more companies don't look at it that way

Man that would be amazing to see. From all the good stories I hear on customer service from them they must have the best service in the business by far.

Liked reading your report. Very interesting. Thanks.

I've been gettting Leups for my shooters lately and plan to continue that practice.

Lucky basterd! :D I wish I had an opportunity to do that!
14 min wow that is fast! they must make a huge profit on scopes but who cares they are still worth it!

Last year something came loose in my 30 year old M8 4x. I made a couple of inquiries and was pleasantly surprised to find that it is indeed a lifetime warranty. I sent the scope to some place in Alberta and got it back in two weeks.

Leupold truly does stand behind their products.

I am in the process of getting my first Leopold, I am putting it on a 30-06 Browning Bar. The scope is the 4.5x14 and hearing this kind of a story makes me feel even better about spending this kind of cash when there is alot cheaper out there. Customer sevice is one of the most imortant things I look for these days and it seems to be something harder and harder to find everyday. Good work Leopold
