For those that prefer Leupold and are familiar with them, there are some tell tale signs on
those two photos I posted in #8.
Leupold doesn't put the serial number where the AO side knob would be.
The end of the box sticker states Matt-lin.
It should be Matt-1in.
Few other sqwibbles and calling Leupolds 1-800# with the serial number spelled it out.

Write the serial number down on the box as it is a famous one used.

When in doubt, call it in.
I'm almost certain there is a fake Leupold in the EE.
Can't comfirm it for sure, but it sure looks fishy.

This is why I won't buy a newer leupold , my eye could never tell the diff from the old ones , the newer turrets are nicer but I'm a set it and forget it guy with most scopes.

unless a guy calls (which I wouldn't most times ) it's hard to keep up with the times

Saying all that , I bought a fake vx3 from a guy here that had been fooled , he was mad and gave it to me for $150.
It's a GOOD scope , I took off a low end leupold with a stiff power adjustment and put this one on . The glass is much better than the cheap leupold and the turrets are nice and repeatable .

It's a well used gopher gun I put it on , it will stay there , now checking longevity .

I got a really good deal for my $150

Thanks. I’m surprised that a basic run of the mill scope was counterfeited. I’m used to seeing the fake ones with tall turrets and “red and green illumination” that are easily discerned.
