Lever Action Choices

Any Threads on interchangeable ammo? I heard rumor of a 410 shot out of an old Springfield Trapdoor. Is this for real, can my 45-70 be used to shoot 410 shells?

No and yes. Some function as a single shot but not recommended at all. I have loaded shot into a 45/70 case and it would work as a short range grouse gun but patters where a huge donuts due to the rifling after 7 yards.

To the OP. Look for a nice older Marlin 336 in 30-30 or 35 Rem and you will have the best all purpose lever rifle going. The 1895s in 45-70 are very good too if you decide on a big bore. Avoid the Winchester 94s at all costs. Compared to the Marlins they are a complicated, awkward, prehistoric firearm. :)

The end.

Hahahahaaaa.........he's figured it out.............
And you can mount glasses awn'im if'n yer part blind.
And the ammo gits itself tawssed owt the side.
And they izz down rite akkyerr8 too.

Sorry for the thread hijack but I have to ask about that scope mount.

My eyes just don't focus on irons anymore so I haven't been using my 20" barreled stainless Puma M92 in 454 Casull for the last couple of years it's just been sitting in the safe.

I'd love to mount my Leupold Prismatic 1X scope onto this rifle.

elims where did you get that mount, who makes it, does it come in stainless, how do you like it, does that knob/arm that attaches to the receiver get in the way of carry?

Thanks for any info

If you're looking to start casting your own lead boolits head on over to Cast Boolits dot com

Scrolling down the forum to the reloading section will also help you get started.

Lead is kinda hard to find unless you luck out, then you'll be up to your neck in the stuff. Tire shops and scrap yards are a good choice. Yomomma is another.

Molds are easier to find Wholesale sells a bunch of different sizes, so the size and weight should be close to what you want.

Reloading gear will run you another few hundred on up to get the basic starter setup.

Save your brass, even if you don't reload for now, it'll come in handy later.

The Lyman Cast Bullet loading manual is a good start. I'd recommend another book, just to cross reference.

This isn't a cheap hobby, but if you peck away at it you'll have a stash of treasure in no time. Just keep at it.

And pray your wife doesn't sell it for what you told her it cost...
