Rossi is generally a couple hundred dollars cheaper than a new Marlin.

When I was doing the Cowboy shooting I started out with the little MARLIN, great gun, very easy to shoot, compact and reliable. I then decided I wanted a UBERTI 73. Very nice gun with the case hardened receiver and oct. barrel BUT I shot the little MARLIN better. trouble is I sold the marlin to buy the 73. Just a note on the ROSSI, A fellow shooter had one of those and it was great however his was an older one, I have read that the older ones are better.

I had exactly the same experience. Had a Marlin Cowboy in .45LC and was winning matches. Went to a Uberti 73 and it was picky feeding and extracting. Then had a Rossi that was fine if you worked the action well. I never should have traded that Marlin...

Reliable Gun ( board sponsor ) has a Chiappa 1892 takedown in .357 on consignment. It looks like a nice little rifle, but I have no idea of the quality.

If you spend just a little more you could get a new Winchester 1892. Even though they have the rebounding hammer and tang safety they are excellent little rifles.

My vote still goes to the little marlin listed above. very fun to shoot. mine was identical to that one.

I have a Rossi Puma .357. I don't shoot in contests, just plinking. Had my buddy, Deaner, slick the action with some new springs, etc. Came with a DVD. Works very nice. I also have a Chiappa .44 magnum. It works nice as well.

I cast for most of my rifles, so I can plink fairly cheaply. I shoot the two mentioned, and as well, I have some 94's in 30-30 and 32WS that I shoot quite often.

Another vote for the Miroku Winchester. I got one last year and its excellently made. Its slightly out of budget but a great gun worth considering

Yeah actually it seems most lever actions are closer to $1000 and up... I don't wanna start another caliber so my eyes are on the Henry Long Ranger in 223. Since I got a bit of the ammo and the Long Ranger is mag fed which seems to be easier than some other lever actions. May be this is the goal for Black Friday 2019,,,,
