sorry about that..just heard about the deal from a friend of a friend type of a thing..and he wasnt not exactly sure of the cal..it was a marlin though and he said458..no wonder I couldnt find anything..lol

If it's in 45-70 or .450 Marlin, might want to pop a couple rounds off first, if you can.

They tend to kick a tad, make sure it's not an issue for you.

Some find the .444 Marlin not much fun to shoot, too.

just watched a couple u tube vids..you wern,t joking...325 grains..the bore in one shot looked like a stove pipe..I had a couple 3030,s before so nothing at all like that

Mild 45-70 loads in a Marlin lever are quite comfortable to shoot but the heavier loads will wake you up. Recommend you take Springers's advice and look for an opportunity to test-fire a few rounds first.

If you do decide to purchase it, buy a limbsaver recoil pad. They work great, and whether or not you are recoil shy, it makes the gun more comfortable, and therefore more accurate. I think most people will agree that this a reloaders round, that is to say you have tons and tons of reloading options. Hornady's are the best price for factory ammo, and they shoot pretty tight for most people.

Is this cal just a little too much for deer ? I hunt deer and moose and would like it to do both jobs

It will do both jobs with ease within its range limitations and with the Hornady leverolutions within 200 yards
