Along with the flash light, laser and red dot sight, find a collapsible butt stock kit and a skull camo hydro dip. Maybe even offset iron sights and a 200 round bandoleer.

Just kidding. I'm jealous of your rifle and trying to make myself feel good by poo-pooing your fun.

I'd tighten down the safety set screw for now but remove the whole thing later, a classic adjustable leather sling for comfort and keep the stock sights. Have fun
 
This is a video of my 81 year old dad shooting my 1895GS I have been doing different scopes/XS Sights ghost ring sights etc over the years.

Right now my rifle has Warne nickel two piece scope bases, rear XS Sights backup low Weaver ghost ring sight and taller front post, Leupold 1X Prismatic lighted reticle scope, action was tuned by Peter @ Rusty Wood Trading Company in Mission BC, Kick-Eez grind to fit recoil pad, the first black/gray laminate stock set the Marlin ever sold separately into Canada, butt stock ammo holder/pouch (keep the ghost ring/screwdriver in there when I mount a standard scope), Wild West Guns Tactical light Mount, Streamlight tactical light and the sling is now a 1" black webbing quick adjustable.

That is a crazy fun gun to shoot! Got it out yesterday only put like 10 rounds down range but could not stop smiling after. I was suprised with some of the complaints of the lever and the feeding tube, smooth as butter on mine no break in needed at all. I will agree the loading gate will nip a finger and can strip some brass, hoping that softens up soon.

Sounds like a right cool build.
 
EPPS gets another shout out HSM Bear load, granted round nose vs wad cutter but $39 cheaper than Cabelas and $10 cheaper than the US ordered more than a couple boxes today hopefully they are as advertised and next pay check will be placing a large bulk order. Lol also carry buffalo bore 500grain FMJ for $50 a box, bought one just to see what it will blow through!

With the HSM it now takes my discounted shooting price of $2.25 a shot to $1.50 a shot for a big ass caliber.
 
You guys really need to get into reloading...

I couldn't afford to shoot if I had to pay those prices and my reloads give just as good if not better than the best available factory ammo but at a fraction of a cost.

I just read an article that said "Dont buy an elephant gun for moose hunting". Writer had to sight in a rifle in .375 RUM and deeply regretted it after.

But where is the fun in that, we would all have a .30-30, .303 or the european in me would have a 6.5X55.

Can you even reload for less than 1.50? From my pricing unless you already have the brass available it's almost 2$ still.... Am I wrong?

Well call me crazy I LOVE this gun, I can't even describe it. Everything about it feels great the recoil is awesome in a good way to let you know the round you just let off the chain. It will put down anything in North America for sure and witching 50-100yards the world. Again I live in Ontario and there is nothing but bush around here. If I still lived on Alberta tons of reason to own a 308,338,375 but out here the 45-70 was build for this. I'm not a guy who has unlimited funds for his guns and I bought this as my one and only hunting rifle and am thrilled with it. Also love going from 225grain to 500gain whenever needed, to me that's almost shotgun like versitility.

Update should have the leather work done this week, got a teaser pick of the aged black with silver highlights in Crocodile print I'm very excited to see the finished product.
 
I can load for a lot less than that.

I reuse my 45-70 brass over 10 times without worrying about it.

Super quality cast gas checked bullets from jethunter here on CGN are $70 for 200 = $0.35 each my brass is now free once I fired it once powder is appr $35 to load those 200 rounds.

I spend just as much as you guys that buy factory but I get to shoot so much more... :)

Thanks for the heads up! I just ordered some more HSM and a box of Buffalo 500gn from Epps to try out

Had some fun with the HSM's yesterday sighting in the SBL!
 
Shot my SBL for the first time yesterday. I was using the bear loads.

Shot off five and thought this gun is a pussycat for recoil, mainly because I was shooting slugs out of my JW2000 shorty before I started with the SBL and in comparison I'd say the JW had twice the recoil.

That SBL pad is like butter. The JW like a solid hardened chunk of steel.

Love my SBL and so excited to do it again.

The H515c-u Holosun I mounted didn't even flinch at the recoil.

Haha that's what I bought simply out of curiousity of what a full p+ load FMJ 500grain bullet will punch though!!! The HSM stuff will be the every day load though at that cheap price and if I'm in the open field or tree stand hunting I'll use the Hornady stuff.

Couldn't resist and bought a Vortex Strike Eagle for it! May be too heavy but if it is I'll play musical chairs with my red dots and see what I like. Emailed Vortex for a ballistics table for 45-70 vs the 223 the hash marks are currently setup for.

The SBL was totally worth the money, soon as the scope arrives and my Leather work is done I will be getting my wife to pose in her Jurrassic World shirt with it lol. Still working on the tag line for it though.

Looking forward to seeing your leather! We were trying out my brother in laws new gong yesterday with the 430 HSM loads. It's now the benchmark for all other rounds hitting the gong.

I was also told the recoil felt like a 12 gauge.
 
The funny thing is the 325 grain Hornady stuff is the "sharpest" kicking I've tried. It's not a thud it's a sharp 308 style kick because of the quick burn powder they use. The Remmington 405 stuff is not even recoil, it's like a stuffed animal giving you a shove lol it's almost commical. But makes one hell of a hole still. Until I can ever afford a semi auto 50cal I'm not sure I'm ever going to find something as fun as this is to shoot. Really hope I can tag a bear with it but if not once season ends I'll get out the coyote call and really give it a chance to shine.

Lol my neigbor asked if I was going on Safari when I loaded up the quad on the weekend (he uses a .270 for everything lol).
 
Scope and more ammo arrive today and I'll post pics, can't have a stock cover Sans insane looking ammo (500 grain FMJ I think will do it).

Very impressed with June (kuddlyGemini) and her leather work! The Crocodile (Dino) print was awesome and the black on Silver Dye matches the Wood grain on it nicely! I also give 4.5 outa 5 stars, sizing the stock cover could have been 1/4" longer on each side but hell for doing it off just measurements it fits like a glove unlike many that have a bulge at the front of back because it was cut on the wrong angle. Also broke the leather Ties haha pulled it too tight, still made it work cause there was tons of extra length but will get some stronger shoe lace leather for it. Keep up the great work! Now before she and Jake come to their Sences place your orders!!! As I will not disclose custome order pricing but I was blown away by the prices of everything done and the work that goes into it. You can't buy the fake stuff online for what was billed. I highly reccomened reaching out if you have an idea and not the skill to make it happen. Would never consider buying from an American leather worker again based on the Canadian workmanship and pricing I experienced.

Have multiple saddles dropped off as well because they came through so well on this package and I will look to see what else could use some leather wrap around the gun room.
