Silly question are there any Brits on this forum that still shoot lever actions. Or are they banned now in the UK.

I have two Winchester Model 1886's, both in 45-70, one has a pistol grip and the other a straight grip. I've never noticed a difference in actual shooting.

I have both and for my preference, concerning looks, it's pretty much dependant on the make and model of the lever action. However, when it comes to the heavier calibers and loads with the resulting recoil, I prefer the pistol grip. The first one in that category that comes to mind is my Marlin 1895GS and although I like the looks of the straight stock, the recoil can be a little hard on the fingers. My 444S and its pistol grip design isn't anyway near as harsh in that respect. My old Marlin 94 in 44-40, I like the straight stock look but on my newest 'pet', a Winchester 71, I like the pistol grip look.

Pretty inconclusive poll.

I like the straight stocks though. They look gracefull and classy and handle elegantly.

I've shot both in different calibers and I cant say I have a preference on how comfortable one is over the other. I'd take the straight stock just for the looks factor.
