As I was going to go mow the lawn at the range I had to make a tough decision. Which firearms would accompany me to make the trip worthwhile?

Looking through the big safe sparked no inspiration. I didn't feel like doing anything precision, I just finished cleaning my plinking pistols, and I have been struggling with some issues with my right shoulder so have been avoiding the heavy hitters.
Perusing through one of the overflow safes my eyes rested on a golden trigger.
Hmm my B92 .44 mag. I bought this rifle with the intention of getting it re barreled with a heavier 1/21 twist for more versatile cast bullet shooting.
I was unable to find someone to barrel a lever gun for me and the rifle went on the back burner. I decided to see how well it did with Hornady XTP's as I had no cast that would feed in this rifle.
As an afterthought I grabbed the marlin .357, I had only shot it once and put it away pending ordering some skinner sights that I never quite got around to buying.

After I finished mowing I parked the mower behind the truck and got out the rifles. Offhand at 50 yards just plinking at some steel. The Marlin couldn't miss with the NOE 180 grain wfn bullets. The .44 didn't do so well. I put some paper up to see what was going on and it would seem that my highest rear sight setting isn't quite enough. Also need to drift it a bit. When I bought it I was cursing the person who cut the stock and installed a pad on it. After shooting it I am saying a little prayer for their well being. I swear it kicks more than my Marlin .444.

All in all a fun little plinking session that would have been good cheap fun if I hadn't backed over the lawn mower when I tried to leave.

Nice choices. I have a Winchester 1892 (same as your Browning B92 I believe, made in Japan by Miroku) except it has a crescent buttplate with a steel plate at the end. Is this thing going to murder my shoulder in .44 mag?
I also have a Marlin 1894 357 on its way.

Is your Marlin a "JM" marked one or a newer production?

My shoulder is a bit buggered right now but it does hit pretty good. I would recommend getting a tie on leather but pad. Looks good and damps the recoil a bit. Besides you can say it's for length of pull like Hickok 45 haha

Yah the marlin is a jm

My goodness sleepy, use the t'other shoulder.
I'm practicing shoot'n both ways as I'm left eye dominant and
shewt right handed.
Makes it a wee bit fun and a bit of a challenge too.
I am at a point to be comfortable nuff to shoot fur this way.

Sleeper: Nice rifles, too bad about the lawnmower - been there done that. PS did you finish it off :)

kamlooky: Here a solution for you:

AHHH the old Bashaw range, with the ghost of John and Gabe still watching over your shoulder...must be the annual handgun shoot this weekend. Good memories, attended regularly in the 70's & 80's.

Looky.... keep at it, it'll come. I shot left handed for 30 yrs and then lost that eye. took me a while to master shooting right handed but have a fairly good handle on it now. Shooting from a rest came back easily and is still required for any hunting shots much over 150 yrds. Shooting free hand was a lost cause until I started shooting Cowboy. Wing shooting or any free hand, no matter what the range was impossible until I became comfortable at bringing the gun up right handed in a hurry.... shooting Cowboy under the clock and with people watching (along with the amount of rounds you practice getting off in a hurry) really made me concentrate on the mechanics of bringing up the gun right handed... now it's so natural that it almost like I never shot left in the first place.

I was able to repair the lawnmower,..mostly

I can shoot left when its called for but I need a lot more practice to be real comfortable.

Our prize shoot is this coming Sunday. Be nice to have a few more warm bodies as the active membership is dwindling

Nice shootin irons Sleeper but dude I hate to see that bloody model 92 beat on your sore shoulder like that its just not right. Send it to me and stop this nonsense I'll pay for postage no worries there. :)

Oh and I thought an old equipment operator would have learned to do a walk around b4 backing up :p

Hopefully I'll get to take you up on that at some point :) So this thread gives me seller's remorse for letting my Marlin 44 mag slip away several years ago. Still have a 44 mag revolver and liked the idea of a chambered alike lever and wheel gun. Wouldn't at all mind a model 92 like yours one day actually.
