I am looking at replacing my lever gun I sold a few years ago. I am thinking of the Rossi 44 mag in 18" or 20" barrel, but I see they also have a 454 in the 20". A win trapper would be great if I could find one at a good price. The 45-70 is to much gun. I would like some opinions on both cal for bush hunting deer.

I use my .454 for hunting moose within 100-150 yards. I like it. Havn't shot anything other than grouse with it yet though. (loaded with .45LC) It's a versatile rifle, carries well, (You can carry it all day without a strap) You can load and shoot .45LC to use for small game if you'd like. (hit them in the head, it helps. Otherwise, things can get messy) My only problem with them is that ammo sometimes isn't carried by local gun shops. I do most of my ammo ordering online. Saves the headache of asking for .454 Casull or 45LC from someone who thinks that 303s, 300WM and 30-30 are the only rifles/chamberings in the world. Don't get me started about trying to buy 16 and 28 gauge ammo. Ugh...

Also, can a mod please move this thread. Thanks.

Thanks for moving my thread but it seems my heading has been changed from 44 mag vs 454. I remember someone else had a heading lever gun fun I hope his thread did not get deleted.
