The chiappa repro 1892 take down with color cased receiver in .45LC?

I had one once and returned it for having a factory flaw (chip out of the bolt) and bought something else because they had no others in stock like it. I missed that gun ever since.

Is such a beast still around at retail? There's one on the EE in .44-40, but I specifically want the .45LC version.

Since nobody is rushing to anser this, I'm assuming that like me, no-one has found anything matching my description - lol

What about one of the new Winchester (Miroku) levers in .45LC, ideally a take-down model with button mag and octagon to round?

Do these new mirokus still have that abomination of a tang safety?

Have to send it back. Nice enough looking gun, but there's a manufacturing flaw, the front sight dovetail is machined all crooked, looks like a factory error. Will call Epps in the morning, but I believe it's their last one.

Damn. I really wanted to like this gun - it's the second one I've ordered from two different dealers. One had a flake of metal chipped off the bolt near the extractor pin and it was the last one at that dealer, so they couldn't replace the rifle. Now this one has a serious machining flaw where the end mill that initially cut the dovetail went in way too deep and the dovetail cutter was then set too shallow, leaving "steps" in the dovetail to the point you could slip a paperclip under the front sight blade - lots of light shining through. The barrel wall can't be more than a few thou thick now in that spot :( It might be OK, but for the price I can't live with it.

Such beautifully made rifles ruined by such little mistakes. Sad.

Guess I'll have to order a properly made Miroku winchester and just live with the stupid tang safety :( After two strikes, I'm not going to swing a third time and eat shipping both ways AGAIN.
 
Perhaps you'll be better off with the Miroku gun. There seems to be a disproportionate number of similar stories about Chiappas. I know that I tried to buy a used Chiappa singleshot, coincidentally from Epps, that turned out to have a manufacturing defect. I wanted to wait for parts from Chiappa...they agreed that it would be a warranty repair...and was forced to give up after something like 10 months of waiting. Epps was great, by the way, and was willing to refund my money right from the get-go...but I stubbornly wanted that gun. I think I'm giving up on Chiappa.

Have you checked the Cimarrons? I am pretty sure that they are better quality than Chiappa. I am not sure if they have a take down model but they have a 92 in 3 different barrel lenghts and in .45!

They also have nice 73's in .45 in 16'', 19'', 20'' etc. barrel lenghts...might be worth a look!

If I had to buy a repro rifle/shotgun now, I would most probably go with Cimarron and Pedersoli!

Well the bright side is Epps has plenty of Miroku Winchesters in stock in .45 colt. Not sure if any are takedowns, but I can live without the TD feature. We'll see what htey have to say tomorrow. The Winchester basic 20" carbines are about $100 more, but aren't as ornate with only basic walnut and no color case hardening.

To get similar wood to the chiappa I have to go to the deluxe pistol-grip model 24" rifle for about $500 more than the chiappa. Bitter pill to swallow when I don't want a PG :(

Too bad they don't make a 24" winchester without the PG stock...
 
Grr... so I phone Epps and explain the situation politely and they tell me the only option is to return the rifle for warranty!!! (i.e. new barrel?). which means they send it back to, presumably, North Sylva, who in turn send it back to ITALY!! And I have no gun for the next 10 to 12 months while Epps keeps my money.

I've had the gun less than 24 hours, it's unfired, and they are refusing any return or exchange options. The maroon on the phone would noty even transfer me to a supervisor - he basically said that was my only option and if I didn't like it, tough.

Guess I've done business there for the last time.

Next stop = me returning the rifle anyway and disputing the credit card charge. So sad it had to come to this as I would have ordered a more expensive gun from them in replacement (a Winchester 92) which I offered to do and they would not agree to.

VERY UNHAPPY WITH EPPS.
 
I know some people turn to forums when they have an axe to grind but if the story played out just as you say, that is the worst service ever. I was considering picking up my Tikka Varmint from Epps. You have cast doubt in my mind. If this is how they treat customers I will avoid them like the plague. To be fair to Epps, they should have a chance to respond.
 
I too would love to see them claim they did offer refund or exchange, but fact is I was told this was not an option on a new unfired gun.

They claimed it was store policy. I would love for the to chime in and offer another solution that ends in me having a rifle this season.
 
Just finished cross-posting this to the epps forum. So we will soon see if they say anything at all?

I honestly cannot imagine any answer they might give that justifies their obtuse position on this issue.

I got one from epps in the spring but they look like they are all pistol grips now.. even the winchester website only shows 24" with pistol grip. They were made might find one some where. mine is a 24" with cased coloured,oct barrel and straight grip stock.

Usually, Epps is badass f00king awesome so i can't see why they'd f0ck with you like this. Sh*t does happen though. FYI i bought a '92 a few months ago from a local dealer. It's a Rossi in .454 Casull though. Not a 45lc like you wanted but it does shoot 45lc without a problem. I've been using it a lot this year as my car-bean. Loaded with .454s for moose at close range and 45lc for partridge. Havn't killed a moose with it yet but it's been bloody deadly on 2 pound birds loaded with 225 grain 45lc's. :D Try to hit them in the head. It helps. Anyway, They are hard to find but if you can get one (without a safety) like i did, it's worth the money and is a rifle you'll never want to get rid of. Also, the blueing is better than every new NA gun i've ever bought(that was made in the last 30 years). Something to think about anyways...

As I pointed out just now in the thread I put in the Epps forum, an Epps employee contacted me and is looking into things. I'm hoping I just got the wrong guy on the phone earlier today.

Epps maybe alright if you can go there and pick stuff up, BUT they are so bad I even took them off my saved lists.

I ordered twice from these people and it was a nightmare both times, I can guarantee you there will not be a third time, not quite that old or stupid yet!
