Been out of lever action game for the past couple years been looking to pick up one again.
What’s up the the massive price increase.
Had some sticker shock when I started looking.
Saw a beautiful marlin stainless in 44 on EE was ready to pull the trigger till I saw he’s asking 3k

I had that same rifle bought new from cabèlas for $849 before covid and the world went loco lol.itraded it for a Marlin guide gun 1994 vintage, never cared for the sbl.44 at all.

New Miroku Winchester levers start at around $1500 plus and go up - way up - from there. And the popular calibres i.e 30-30 & .44 Mag & .357 Mag are scarce with people lined up to purchase.

Kid at work has decided he wants or needs a 30-30 and asked my advice. Well the last Winchester I bought as 99 bucks from a gun counter in a drug store in Calgary in 1973 so trying to find him one under a 1000 that is in good shape has been a trial. Do have a brand new Marlin in 30-30 but won it in a raffle so it don't count.

Keep your eyes on on CGN and gun post, seen a couple sell for reasonable $700 or so. GOne quick though.

And I'd wager that most of those are in "really not good" condition.

Unless you've got lots of time and patience to watch the listings, I don't recommend buying a used lever action rifle right now. If you've got a connection setting you up directly, that's different of course.

There's inflation across the board, just look at the cost of "entry level" firearms of any type. On top of that, there is the "Yellowstone effect" bringing a premium for old-timey firearms.

That $3k price is probably optimistic, but I think there are fair options in the $1200-$1600 range. That seems steep to me, but when you look at what $1000 generally gets you for a new firearm right now, maybe it's not so bad. An item is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay for it, goes for firearms as much as anything. If it's something you really want, it might be a long shot to expect prices to come down in the future...

Sooo I just had a look at the Winchester ((Miroku) line up for 2023. The 94 Carbine is up over $200 and lists for a few dollars under $1800. Specialty models are a lot more.

I’d be interested in hearing thoughts on what order you would rate different manufacturers. Eg Uberti, Marlin, Winchester, Henry and are there any models to stay away from

The (Miroku) Winchester is hard to beat for all around quality of workmanship. Finish, fit, bluing, smoothness all excellent. IMHO

Sure, I wish everything was cheaper, too. What's the list price for the new Ruger Marlins?

There are still Miroku Winchesters available for $1300-$1500, I'd be snapping them up if I was in the market right now.

IMO, for new manufacture, I think Miroku Winchester wins all day every day. But I think the centerfire Henry rifles generally have a solid reputation if you like their design. And I don't know if the Ruger Marlins are common enough for there to be a verdict on them yet. Uberti seems too fancy for my kind of people. The lower tier clones like Rossi and Chiappa have their issues and their fans.

For any lever action, I strongly recommend buying from a dealer with a well-established record of customer service. If there is an issue with the rifle, it is not the easiest type of action to work on yourself.

There probably are some around at those prices you mention. However, currently Epps has over a dozen new Winchester levers in stock. The least expensive is $1609 and run up to $2494. No 30-30s or 44mag or .357Mag. The calibres available are 45-70, 30-40 Kraig, 38-55 ect - not, I believe, calibres that are very desirable.
