Lever guns

I hunt "old time" the first week of season. Myself and my son use 1906 Winchester rifles in 30-30. I have used my 1906 38-55 rifle with success but recently sold it. Going to try my 25-35 Winchester rifle this opening season and see how it performs.

I have not been drawn for bigger game ( elk or moose) so cannot comment on the 30-30 caliber efficiency for them. But many old timers have hunted all game with the same caliber and it seems to be the 30-30.

I use a Win model 94 30-30. This will be the first year w/ new Leveroution ammo from Hornaday. Seem pretty good I will let you know how the test firing goes this weekend.
FYI: they clame an extra 250ft/sec and an additional 100yds out of it?

I have three lever guns that I do use for big game, Black Bear, Deer & Moose;
  • - A Marlin 444S in 444.
  • - A Marlin 1895GS in 45-70
  • - A model 71 Winchester Deluxe in 348WCF
  • - I also have an old Marlin 1894 in 44-40. I got it more for sentimental reasons than anything as it is the first centerfire rifle cartridge I ever shot. I would use it here on the island for Deer.
