I have 3 of the Miroku Repro' Winchester M1895's; .270Win, .30-06 and the .405Win. Each of these are slightly different, just cosmetic of course. The .270 has zero frills, the .30-06 small engraving on the receiver, while the .405Win has color case hardened receiver plus a gold trigger. I absolutely love these rifles!! :runaway:

Also I have Marlin M1895's; the M1895GS Guide Gun and the M1895XLR; both in .45-70Govt cartridge. :)

I snuck in my Marlin 39A .22 and my Ruger No.1 .303Brit... :p

Hell yes!! Just had it at the range today!! :)

I have tried a few different loads with it; 53.5 grs H335 with the 300gr Hornady spitzer I get avg vel 2300fps, which is a hair too fast. 2250fps is max listed velocity.
With 54grs H4895 gets avg MV 2220 fps, which is perfect in this rifle.

There's a really nice thump when you touch this off. Haven't shot anything with it yet, but there's a black bear out there somewhere that's gonna wear one of those slugs one day!! :)

Shot a real nice bull moose with the .30-60 last Oct.

I havent shot a 405.....yet. But I wanted to know what you thought and how your shoulder was. I like old cartridges with a nice thump like you mentioned.

Back in the day that 405 would have been the magnum round par excellence over the old blackpowder big bores.....mmmmm

Thats a beauty bull too, I bet he tasted just great.
 
I was recently willed an older Marlin 39A. I'd had very little experience with any levers, and never owned, or wanted to own any.

Wow. One trip to the range and I love that rifle! Talk about a comfortable, accurate and easy handling package. And it's nice to be able to shoot short/long/long rifle too.

Has given me a real itch for a bigger lever rifle...
 
Both my .270 and .405 have steel butt plates. Only just received the .270 today, so haven't had an opportunity to fire it yet.

The .405 is easy on the shoulder, even with the steel butt plate.

The .30-06 has a black rubber recoil pad, but it's not much better then the steel, it's just solid rubber.

I guess a .303Brit or .30-40Krag would be tempting if I stumbled across those. I bought the .270 & the .405 from Cabelas USA, and the .30-06 I got off the E.E.

Scratch that itch!! :p

You can get a .405Win off Cabelas USA any day, although the import process takes some time. It took me ~6 months to get my .405 and ~4 months to get the .270.

I've used Questar Int'l and Prophet River for importer service. They are both great!
 
Very nice!! At a gun show last year I was looking at an 1895 Carbine in 303Br. and was starting to 'feel the need'.
