I have been a lever guy my whole life, I tried to jump on the bolt train a few years ago and I just couldn't stay on it.. i sold all my bolts except a couple hand-me-down rifles and bought a few more lever guns.

anyone in the same boat as me?

What are your favourite rifles for hunting applications?

I Love my '94's only levers I have ever owned or wanted. Although as my eyes age, I am starting to look at old Marlins (scope-able). And I do have bolts and semi's in the stable too. Love them all.

I am a lever guy, but both bolts and lever actions coexist in my collection and at least one of each comes out to the range when I go. They both have their place.

I had a Marlin 1895CB but I didn't like it. Sold it off for a tidy profit a few years back. I have temporary custody of Rosie's Winchester '71 and I'm looking forward to taking it for a few walks in the woods this fall. That reminds me...I have to send him my 219 Donaldson Wasp forming dies and scope bases. He's babysitting it for me.

mate ive always had a passion for the ol guys an lever action hunting, cowboys movies and stuff, so I always had to have one, I'm in the passion boat of traditional lever gunning, so open sights etc... however with a model 94 375 BB covering that I wouldn't mind a BLR in 358/ or something like the 45-70 with a scope to make it a more general hunting outfit, now days when I go lever gun hunting, the approach is very different to a bolt hunt.

We're cut from the same cloth, I picked up a beautiful 375 BB 94 a couple months ago and I have a few blrs as well (30-06 & 257 rob) I also have a few other 94s and a Marlin..
Right now I have a real itch for a 307.. anyone have experience with them? I love the idea of being able to top mount scope a 94 that can shoot out to longer distances

Last fall on my northern Alberta moose hunt, I could have taken one of many bolt actions.
I instead took an old 94 in 38-55.
You are not alone.

Only three levers with me - '77 Marlin 444S, BLR LtWt S/S TD in .308, plus a "gifted-to-me" 1998 94AE Big Bore in 444 Marlin. I like my levers for bush hunting for their shorter o/a length and fast second shot capabilities if needed. I do like my bolts, though, for more open shooting such as varmints, open terrain bigger game, etc. And I've scoped all of my levers to counteract the aging eye syndrome. All three levers now wear Leupold IER 2.5X28 Scout scopes, at least until I decide whether to keep one on the Winnie with the short LOP.

I've owned a few Marlin 1895's. I still have my 358 Winchester take-down BLR and it's a keeper. So far it has accounted for 1 Moose. Can be loaded with 38 caliber pistol bullets for plinking and bullet weights up to 310gr for hunting. Plus it stows easily.

That Texan looks pretty interesting

1979 Glenfield 30GT. Made in 1979 and 1980 only with 7737 produced in 30-30 only. Has an 18.5" barrel and is very nimble and accurate.

I prefer the looks of the Glenfield 36G above it in the photo. Made in 1964 and 1965 only, 5930 were produced in 30-30 only.

They no longer live with me...

Love the levers. Most all of them but I tend to gravitate towards the classic designs and open sights. The guide gun in my avatar was scoped for a while but it's much handier without.

I enjoy the challenge, simiar to bowhunters, in using open sighted leverguns for my hunting. We have an 8 day bow season out of a 3month plus deer season so it's easy to wait for rifle season to open.

I would love to have a Glenfield 30GT in 35 Rem if there ever was such a thing. I like the looks of those birch stocks with those designs.

These are my hunting rifles
Winchester 94AE in 7-30 Waters
Marlin 1895 in 45/70 Government
Marlin in .35 Rem
Henry H001 in .22L
Browning BL Grade 2 in 22L

and hopefully a few other Winchesters in odd ball cals to come

I have never been without a lever gun, although I sold off all my Winchesters, I still have a few Savages and Marlins in the lockup.

My latest love is a 336Rc in 35 Remington. The 20" barrel is nice in close quarters and the M8 6x is just about right.

200gr Hornady RN over 36gr 3031 work good but need some fine tuning to shrink the groups.

How does the Henry shoot Freddy? Always wanted one of them!

Honestly I have only put maybe 100rds through it. My wife bought it for me as an engagement present years ago. It sits above my fireplace now on display. If I were to do it again I would look for a 20" version, with the big bras frame and the Rifle length barrel she is a big beast. But she is a beautiful gun and will be in the family for decades to come.

Love the leather sleeve, where dis you get it? I want one for my 35 Rem.

I love my levers. Bolt have their place too though. Guess I'll have to throw some pictures up when I get home tomorrow. Some nice collections out there though.
