Yes I’m tempted to do my own as I’ve done some leather work on saddles back in my guiding days, need a whole punch and some good quality leather…I went with using paracord for a lever loop wrap. Unfortuantly it is not an authentic western option.
I remember as a kid wrapping leather strips on knife handles. Wonder if that may work? Wrap it similar to paracord if have very thin strips of leather
I second levergunleather. Very pleased with his work. I had him make me a cheek riser with cartridge loops for my 1895.
Wrapping a lever with leather is not hard to do. I bought a roll of leather off Amazon and wrapped my own. Butt cuffs, slings etc require a little more skill but not impossible if you have some basic equipment.
Cheers
Leather sewing kits are relatively cheap online too. CheersI’m thinking of trying my Whitney punch( metal punch) for the holes, just find a nice pc of leather, the sinew and xtra large needles.
leaver leather is a 20 minute job with 3/4" wide and 3" long piece(needs to be long enough to cover bottom of lever and 1/2 way up rear loop) of leather and a 20' length of leather boot lace, hole punch of any kind or sharp point knife will work as well.
The following is for rawhide leather, if using saddle weight leather it doesn't need to be as wide as stiffness will be better) Space the holes 3/8" apart down both sides the length of the leather. Important to space the rows of holes down the leather only as wide apart as the lever is...it needs to be very tight when laced up otherwise the leather will slide & bunch up with use. Just lace up as you would a skate...tight as you can, the excess leather will just bunch up under the lever ( seam & stiches outside the loop of course).
A simple buttstock sock can be made the same way but becomes much more involved if you wand cartridge loops added
