I paln to get a lever shot gun in 20 barrel someday after Dec LOl, but was wondering which firm makes the better functioning copy of it? And who sells them in Canada besides the Nor copies?

ive only seen the Norinco ones, and those have been sold out for quite some time.
personally im more interested in their trench gun:

but again, sold out - just like anything good at marstar :(

try a WTB ad on the EE perhaps.

I presume you want this for cowboy action. The supply of suitable shot guns in Canda is pretty much limited to SXS types, Stoger has some, the supply of Norinco's except for 20 ga, is pretty non existant at the minute.

The 1897 pump is ok, but the "Trench" version isn't ok for cowboy action, but most events you can only shoot two rounds at a time and the loading is "on the clock".

There are other companies making re-production of lever guns (I think Uberti does), but they are very expensive. Try Doc's, I think he still has some.

Henry Arms or Stoeger's good. I bought the Uberti in .357 and it was expensive, but I love the feel and smooth action once it was broken in. My buddy swears by his Winchester .45 and it is very nice to shoot as well. Like every other firearm we all own, it has to work for you. I had no cowboy guns when I first started but everyone at my club was more than willing to let me try theirs. Cowboys shooters tend to be a fairly friendly bunch, but don't let the Cowboy fudds bug you. The whole point IMHO is to have fun and enjoy the relatively more relaxed shooting atmosphere. Good luck.

i AM TALKING LEVER SHOT GUN FOR FUN ETC, NOT COWBOY ACTION, I HAVE A BAD LEFT SHOULDER AND ELBOW, SO A PUMP IS NO GOOD FOR ME, THATS WHYT I AM LOOKING AT AT LEVER SHOTGUN OPPS CAPS WAS ON

The only lever shotguns that I am aware of are the Marlin and Winchester 1894's (9410's) which are no longer manufactured, and the Winchester 1887, both originals and the Norinco's.

The 9410's were overpriced and would only take 2 1/2 inch shells. A nice piece, but not overly functional. Probably why they were discontinued.

I am not aware of 1887's in 20 ga, and I can tell you from experience that there is a reason why the Norc copies aren't imported anymore - without fine tuning and modifications, they are nothing more than a novelty with a cylinder bore. Slow for cowboy action, and useless for hunting. Also there is a safety factor in that they will fire out of battery if you touch the trigger while racking the lever - it really bites the fingers when that lever flies open.

Honestly, I don't think that there is anything out there in a 20 ga lever, or any lever shotgun that will fit your needs.

What do you think about this one?

The buttstock has been changed; and poorly I might add. I've done better myself in my time and I'm not that good.

one man's safety factor is another man's fun factor :)

Hey manbearpig, we're not talking about the 97 pump's or the 97 trenchguns like in your picture, this is the 1887 winchester lever action shotguns! Totally different animal - and trust me, firing out of battery is not a fun factor, it's downright dangerous.

ah i missed the lever part of your post, my bad for skimming. i was referring to the lack of a disconnector on the 97 pump being regarded as a 'feature' by many people :)

Why not a semi-auto. Softer shooting and no cycling the action yourself.

I am not into semis, not my thing, as pumps are what others like, i like lever, and i have found a few other copmanies thta make them besiodes norinco

wish i could find that post agin where that member was selling his cowboy action guns, he had a leaver shotgun just can't rtemember his id or the price he wanted

you are limited in what you can get ....it would have to be either a norinco(I'm sure that you could find one in the EE - or have a dealer find one for you) or one of the originals....they are very old any you might have to pay a pretty penny to get one that would be in good enough shape to work the way that you would want it to....your best bet is a new norinco....start cruising the EE...

yes i know two gun they have come up and recently too, and who was that masked man in the ee who is seleling all his cowboy action guns lol, i have looked and can't find it, he is selling one shot gun levar, rifle and two hand guns,
