well i've been wanting a lever action for the longest time and could never decide on what to buy..the used ones are going at an extreme price.. the 9422 for example... well a few days back the cabelas magazine comes in as it always does in the spring and i'm leafing thru it..knowing that there stupidly expensive shipping is waived right now....anyhow i see the henry levers.. golden boy and octagon lever with the american walnut so i decide to do some price comparing with some of the more popular sponsors on this site...i was shocked to see i couldnt find one site come close to the cabelas pricing... who woulda thought? where are you guys shopping? give me some more ideas b4 i pull the pin...

henry octagon lever (walnut) .22lr ---369
henry golden boy oct 439
henry lever...289

funny ive ordered from cabelas a few times over the years always thinking they were far from cheap!!

I got to handle a Henry today and a bl22. Only difference was the Henry had a longer throw for the lever. Sights also looked a little better on the bl22. But for the price difference that Henry really makes a guy want one.

was hopin someone would pitch in with even a cheaper website ...so i could go all out and talk myself into the golden boy.. where are you guys buying your toys? i'm in a one horse town so its mail order only..have gotten most of my stuff of firearmscanada.com

I've got a Henry Octagon Frontier, well worth the extra coin. I find the fit and finish is well above what I'd expect at the price point and compared to the mossberg and browning the bang for the buck is incredible.

Also, I've never had a rifle so darn accurate when I didn't expect it. At a paced off 40 yards I jokingly took a shot at an SKS stripper clip and nailed it. I figured that was a fluke and tried for the ridiculous, a spent 7.62x39 casing stuck upright in a stump. One round unsupported and I hit it dead center. I had planned on a decent scope, but with the open sights I'm finding I need a ridiculous challenge to stretch the rifle's abilities.

Compared to my dad's marlin 57m the action is like butter. I can't speak to long term reliability as I've only had this rifle a week now, but in that week it's eaten every variety of .22LR I've gotten my greasy mitts on and never failed to go bang. If cycled too slowly it does occasionally hang up a round, but familiarity with proper working of the action negates that. I suspect I have over 800 rounds through it by now... I suspect my idea of saving money on ammunition is negated by how darn fun it is to shoot.

Don't hesitate to buy one, I would even be happy with the regular model, but the octagon is just that little bit more for extra capacity, a heavier barrel, fancy gold lettering on the barrel and much better sights.

I will warn you to not let too many other people try it, you may never get it back. My father is getting one for his birthday (with a scope to compensate for eyesight). If he wasn't getting his own I suspect I might not have gotten mine back.

Oh yeah, scope rails on regular and frontier, need for a cantilever mount on a golden boy and some people say the stock angle is wrong. The Frontier feels just fine with a scope mount, but my supplied rings weren't working out for me so I left it off.

well i bought the golden boy but of course it was all too good to be true, ya free shipping but still a 7 something surcharge for shipping of an odd shape or something like that...cabelas will never change!
